I have always loved my 1983 MPC New York Central 20th Century Ltd set. I purchased the add-on diner and sleeper when they became available. Unfortunately, when I switched from tubular track to Atlas, I lost the ability of magne-traction to grip the rails.....I could never run the complete ABA set with the 7 cars.

At York, I picked up my F3 A unit where it was retro-fitted with traction tires.....now, there is no stopping the complete consist......

It's great to see this set running! Thanks for the video. With Super O track, I have the luxury of utilizing those magnetic axles. I have actually removed many a tired wheel set, doing the opposite of you.

I observed the electronic horn skipping as the engine moved along. This may be because the tires you added removed 50% of your grounding. When Lionel started adding tires to their traditional Pullmor motored F3's a few years ago, they discovered that they had to improve the grounding with direct wired lug connections onto the powered trucks. Just an idea if you have any issues.

How did you do this, Pete?  Different Lionel wheel-sets that had the grooves for tires or something else?

Yes......I took them to York and met Frank Timko of Timko's Repair Depot who changed out half the wheels for wheels with groves. I gave him the engine in April and told him that I would see him in October.
