Has anyone ever designed a tractive force experiment using O gauge trains? Something related to the drawbar pull numbers quoted during product tests, but taking into account the weight of the locomotive and the power/Amps required to deliver the pounds of pull?

Never felt the need. I have used my trigger pull scale to check how much pulling power an engine or MU configuration has.
I have a spring loaded fish weighing scale that I attach to the coupler, and I get a pound/ounce analog read-out.

I did the above a couple of times to test but always got about what was listed in reviews in magazines, so I just go with what they publish now.

That's exactly what a trigger pull scale is, it also has a slider that shows you the max force, handy for when you take it off and want to see the reading.
