I'd also highly recommend Stockyard Express in Oberlin. I made my first trip there while visiting my parents last month. It's a well stocked shop, friendly help, and fair prices.
I recommend all three.
If you have some free time, drive over to Berea, and find the cell phone lot at the airport, across the highway from the NS main. Constant parade of freights, yard engines and light power going in and out. One of my faves.
Also, I know its a hike, but if you're there on Monday, make an appointment with Mike at Lionel in Canfield. Itl be worth it.
Mosblack Hobbies... And there's a friednly little shop on the northeast side, towards Mentor (pronounced Menner, by the locals).
Good times.
I get to Cleveland-land about every 4-6 weeks, and I like it. Even took the Lake Shore from Utica to Cleveland once... It got in at like 3am, but I had fun. Love the Water Level Route in western NY, NW PA and OH. Fast and flat!
Thanks,
Mario
I want to reopen this topic because I'm going to go here. Any more store updates?
Also let me dig a little deeper. Are there any train hoarders out there who do shows that would not mind a visit from a collector. Most shops are just too current for my tastes.
I have a TCA directory and people do list if they are open to visits, but I would have to look up everyone. Any names that I should reverse search?
If you want some older Lionel that is still new in the box consider Ormandy's in Medina. He is pretty much full retail, but he has an interesting mix of new/new, new/old stock, and Postwar.
My favorites are Stockyard and Aaron's. Both have large inventories by today's standards.
I am a multi-gauge train hoarder not sure what you are looking for, but feel free to email me.
If you are looking for old stuff, PW/MPC, then you will want to go to the Trading Post. Call first though because it's summer and the owner likes to go up to the islands.
