The DCS and TI, one of my engines, have to be added every time I use them. Now engine will not start, I changed battery twice. It is a ps2. Sometimes other engines have to be readded, but not often remote is version 5.1. Usually have 4-5 engines on track at one time, two transformers, and two TIUs. It usually says it is out of range, not on track, or has no engine.

I've gone over this before. On PS2 and PS3 the engine does not save the address from the add engine process to more permanent memory out of the processor until the shutdown sequence (firmware shutdown) using battery or capacitor power after track power has been dropped.

In a nutshell, an engine that fails to save the ID and needs to be added each and every time has some part of the battery subsystem not working. It's multiple sections so example the charging circuit might not be working, so with a BCR capacitor replacement it never charges up. Or it could be the transistors used to keep the processor and memory powered- they might be damaged (PS2 power board section issue) and so even though there is a working battery, the board cannot "use" the power.

What exact version of engine do you have- product number and or PS2 version (PS2 5 Volt vs PS2 3 Volt).
