Why not just call them?

Cheaper to go to Amazon and search on jewelers screw assortments or M2 screw assortment. Either or similar will bring up dozens that should have M2-M4 screws for small money.

Fwiw, email or call 3rd rail for the screw size then search amazon/EPay for the screws.

My local Ace hardware store stocks small metric screws. They are in the stainless section. Bring one of the remaining three with you and it least figure out the thread size and length you need. They may have one that will work. Not sure how short they go.

The assortment Pete showed looks very complete. Plus they are black. I may just pick up a set.

The screw length is not important so long as the screw you are buying is longer than the screw  you need.

Buy the nuts that mate with the screws.  Run 2 nuts all the way down the screw and cut the screw to length with the Dremel cutoff disc, touch the end with a file, then run the nuts off the screw.   The nuts will re-thread the screw.  Problem solved.

I think everyone here, if they don’t already have one, should own a digital caliper.

They are incredibly cheap these days. No need to call anyone or ask here what the screw size is. For ten bucks you will be able to determine that for yourself.

A caliper gives you the outside thread diameter but not the thread pitch.

Indeed it does but I have yet to run into a METRIC thread pitch not found in these common assortments in a model train or any diameter 10mm or smaller. Neither are you likely to find more than one thread pitch per diameter at a hardware store.

Thank you for the helpful information.  I have, and still am checking the 22 'x 12' layout two main tracks (Atlas with lots of ballast) with a magnet.  Nothing so far.

Hopefully, when I check with GGD at next Thursday at the York meet they will be able to provide some help.  If not, the scew assortment set and Ace hardware will be the next steps.
