I’m new to working on train wiring and generally try to avoid it. However, I’ve been installing LED lighting into my heavyweights and wanted to know if both trucks actually need to be wired to my LED capacitor? I know LEDs take up far less juice, so I didn’t know if both trucks wired for lighting made sense. Thanks for any info!

The reason for two collector rollers per car is that there are gaps in the center rail at switches, crossings, and uncoupling tracks. Dual rollers help prevent the lights flashing off and on at special track work. You could try one car with one roller and see if the capacitors keep the lights on continuously through special track work.  The one roller option is preferred on layouts with more complicated wiring. The second roller will jumper insulating pins using the cars internal wiring. I have seen passenger trains get all the way through an intestinally insulated dead spot due to two rollers per car.
