Unbelievable Digikey/Fedex Parts Delay!!

I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to imply that Digikey was responsible for the delay...Right? They can't really control what happens to their shipment after it leaves their hands, nor can they change the weather.

Perhaps I lead a charmed life, but I've had about a one week shipping time on multiple packages from the East coast to Southern California all through last year to the present time. I've also had good service on my occasional Digikey orders. I'm wondering if shipping to Canada is causing some unknown delay due to the world situation?

The big winter storm that dropped ice and shut down highways as far south as Texas, caused major disruptions in the FedEx system.  BY the time your order would make it from Thief River Falls, Minnesota, (which was also experiencing the weather), to the hub in Memphis, it was a nightmare. 

Ground stops around the country for aircraft.  Trucks stuck unable to get into Memphis from regional hubs added to the so called fun.   By the time things started to unwind, the backlog of packages took a bit to get through.  Especially those going from U.S. to Canada.

I had a large package that sat loaded in a trailer at a major FedEx shipper for a few days, as the truck couldn't come down from Memphis to get it.

It's nothing to do with Digikey, they shipped next day. Like I said, most of my other DK orders as far back as I can remember, arrive either overnight or second day. So normally it works great. But hey, this winter has been kind of "special", and there is no one to blame for it.

Now getting OSHPark boards shipped here in a timely manner is another matter. Their regular free shipping takes AT LEAST 2 full weeks to get here, when everything goes perfectly. And their only other option adds $29.00 for expedited; which I am reluctant to pay for a typical 15 or 20 dollar board order. Call me cheap I guess. I usually wait until I have 2 or 3 board designs needing to be built. And I am getting VERY diligent on double and triple checking everything before I click the ORDER button. My junk board pile does not need to get any bigger haha.

USPS  Unusually Slow Package Service   try FedEX

FWIW, I've been getting Digikey and Mouser packages pretty quickly here lately.  USPS has certainly reduced the backlog  since early in the year, at one point I had packages that I was waiting almost a month for, now they're coming pretty quickly.  I am also getting the OSHPark packages a few days after they email and say they've been shipped, so my grousing about USPS is down to a low murmur.

OSHPark's "Super Swift Service" is just 2x the ordinary price.  So it depends on how big the boards are: for my last order I shelled out the princely sum of $2.60 instead of the $1.30 it would ordinarily cost for a little breakout board.

OSHPark was hit badly by the deep freeze because Fedex wasn't shipping them boards from the fab. I had an order take over three weeks, but once they dispatched USPS it was here in three days.

Am I the only person on here who buys from Mouser?

Nope, I buy lots of stuff from Mouser, I have a pending order right now.

Parts for antique clocks usually take 3-4 days to arrive at most in past have been taken 2 weeks. The tracking like the first poster kept saying In Transit.

In one instance it came to a post office minutes away by car went back further north in the state only to come back to the post office minutes away.

That happened very recently.

Oh well better times ahead think positive.  ; )

I just modified the topic title to reflect that it's not Digikey's sole problem.

Also I think the delay in getting OSHPark boards is not on the US side. I believe the handoff to our wonderful Canada Post is bumpy and slow, and a further problem is the idiotic customs clearance business. So much for NAFTA and "free trade"!

I think it’s just the new times we live in. Normal 2 days is now out to 4-5 days for me.

FedEx leaves a lot to be desired.  When tracking a package that was at a FedEx retail shipping point in Arkansas the FedEx customer service rep told me the pickup driver was coming from San Jose(as in California).  Same package several days later was mis-delivered and it took them forty eight hours to contact the driver and by that time he could not remember where he delivered it.  FedEx drivers are either owner-operators or drivers for investors who own one or more trucks, they are not FedEx employees.  John
