Was very excited to get a box from Trainz today with this car in it. Took it out of the box, unwrapped it, and something was rattling around inside. I tilt it up and....I'll hazard a guess this is a problem.

Anyone tried to repair one of these? I've reached out to see if I can get it replaced or repaired, but I'm guessing it's a goner. PXL_20240717_041848526

Trainz (who are generally awesome people, btw) have given me the option of a refund, a price adjustment, or I can send it to them, and they'll try to repair it. I think I'm going to choose repair since I was really excited for this piece and you don't see a lot of them available.

I've never seen a cap just pop off like that either. It had to have made a noise or something when it happened. I was lucky I still had it on the bench for oiling and inspection and hadn't put it on the layout yet.

Trainz is awesome. Their repair guys are top notch. If they can't fix it, they will work with you to make it right.

If that is just the lighting power supply, and OEM boards are not available, any aftermarket passenger car module should do the job.

So, I (gently) applied power to the car, and the lights work fine, and stay on when I take power off, so it's not the capacitor for the lights. I'm betting it's something to do with the wifi module, because there's no wifi network to be found, which should happen after the car has been powered for a few minutes.

I'm scared to leave it on there too long, and the RMA was approved, so back to the shop it goes.
