Untrasound on 611 Boiler

My question may sound foolish. I am not unnaquainted with untrasound. I note there are "X" marks about 10 inches apart. Are these the ultrasound test points? Does the ultrasound only show thickness. or other developing fatigue flaws? If there is an abnormality, what is the remedy? Is a section cut out and re-welded in place?

Those x's should be 12" apart, and yes, they are the test points. Ultrasound only measures thickness. Thin spots can be patched by a properly-certified boilermaker.
