A few questions:

Usb* to 9 pin
Just realized there is a driver cd that apparently needs to be installed that came with the cable Maybe that will make the difference. Not going to open that until I can confirm I have the correct cable
Please note that Microsoft has issued a number of system updates that have made older sub cables essentially unable to function by the software classifying the chips in the adaptor cable appear to be fake chips. The only work around I found was to purchase a new Windows 10 compatible cable that has the new chipset.

The driver for the cable is extremely important. Do that first.
Then, do the following:
If the PC finds the TIU:
If it still fails, retry all of the above using a USB cable between the PC and the TIU's USB port, since the TIU is a Rev. L.
This and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!" This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store! |
Ok when you say Usb to USB The TIU does not have what I think of as USB. But it does have where I can fit the cable I have attached picture of.
if this cable will work I would rather use it and take back the $25 cable I purchased yesterday. USB to 9 pin
I do not have an L version TIU, so I cannot confirm your cable, but I do know that the L version has a USB input; no need to use the RS232 port for updating.

That is a USB Cable USB A to USB B. "A" is the wide flat side, "B" is the square side.
"A" goes to your computer, "B" goes to your TIU

That is, indeed, a USB cable. It has a Type B male USB connector an the TIU end.

This cable is actually preferred when using a Rev. L TIU. However, it does cause a small change to the instructions I provided earlier. Follow these instructions instead, using only the USB cable to connect the TIU to the PC:
If the PC finds the TIU:
After going through the first sequence of steps it finds the TIU on com 3
after going through the second sequence of steps - I get the hour glass blinking. Looks like it is loading than after a couple of minutes I get error message
" WARNING: the program is having a hard time finding a TIU connected. Confirm that all the connections are correct and cycle power on the TIU."
You have to configure the a usb port on the lap top to a serial port.
The computer does not recognize the cable or that it is a serial cable.
The software included with the serial cable will configure one port to com3, the serial port.
After completing the software installation, connect the cable from the lap top to the TIU.
Next - open the DCS loader program.
On the Task Bar, above all the icons, click on 'Option'
Open Serial. Click on Auto connect to TIU
This will automatically connect the com3 port to the TIU.
Go ahead with your upload
Hope this helps.

I am using the USB cable to load not the serial if that makes a difference
Just be sure that, after the TIU is found by the PC, that you then disconnect both the USB cable and the power to the TIU before inserting the jumper cable. Note that the jumper cable must be stereo, not mono!
Then, and only then, after connecting the jumper cable, connect both the USB and the power to the TIU.
Note that at this time, the red LED on the TIU should come on steady immediately, without any blinking.
Now, continue to upgrade the TIU's software.

The PC has found the TIU - there is a big blue check by USB com3 for TIU Everything is disconnected. Power is off. I connect Stereo cables between protodispatch and photocast ports.
Then, and only then, after connecting the jumper cable, connect both the USB and the power to the TIU. I have connected jumper cable - then - power TUI and connect USB
Note that at this time, the red LED on the TIU should come on steady immediately, without any blinking. Red light is steady on.
Now, continue to upgrade the TIU's software.
i click on system - then send code to TIU
then START ---click on TIU file and open
Sending Code to TIU box is open......it appears to be doing its thing......hourglass is blinking at me......seems to be loading....after 30 seconds or so.....I get the same message as above..
I am careful to do the correct order...I have stereo cable....TIU solid RED light........
I don't know....
The USB powers the TIU. Do I still need to use the auxiliary power
The USB powers the TIU. Do I still need to use the auxiliary power
No, you do not.
However, be aware that the only instance where the USB cable can safely be used as TIU power is when upgrading DCS on the TIU or the remote. Even using USB power for remote backup/restore can be dicey.
Try again using just the USB cable for power following the steps you just used. However, this time restart the PC before following the procedure.
Make sure that all virus protection software, as well as any other software that might be using a COM port, is not running. Further, disconnect any other USB devices from the PC.
Ok here we go...
computer is off and has been rebooted
TIU is disconnected from every cable and power
virus software off no programs running
connected USB from computer to TIU- click on options then search for TIU
get message Auto search for TIU is complete TIU found on COM3 - click ok
disconnect USB from TIU - power is off
connect stereo jumper cable between the Pdispatch and Pcast ports
power on TIU by reconnecting USB to computer and TIU
click system and send code to TIU
double click in TIU file
after 30 seconds or so......
Warning...the program is having hard time finding a TIU connected Confirm that all the connections are correct and cycle power on the TIU
disconnect the USB power....re connect.....same message.
I have a Mac - have to return this borrowed PC tomorrow.....maybe another PC?
What version of the Loader Program are you using?
Doesn't look like my last post was succesful.....
it it said the computer has Windows 7 Is that my problem
loader 5.0
I'm using windows 7 and was able to load version 5 . Can you try an aux power supply?
I have loaded a number of different version TIU's with 5.0 using both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
I have tried aux power supply
We have about 6 tiu and 8 remotes... It didn't go smoothly (version 5) but eventually got it all done. Sometimes we powered everything down ,computer and TIU and started fresh over & over again... It really should be a lot easier. Your computer finds the tiu which would lead one to believe you going in the right direction.
Keep trying. Barry asked what version of the loader are you using? Maybe try installing it again.
thanks for everyone staying with me on this.....needless to say it has become very frustrating. I am going to try to find another computer re-download and start again.
I had this happen and it was a bad audio cable. Have you tried a different audio cable?
New computer new problem (kinda)
'the last computer would find TIU on com 3. Then when I went to transfer code it would give me the error message The program is having hard time finding the TIU .....
'this time after options and auto search for TIU. It does not even find the TIU to start with srraight to the same message. Hard time finding.....
I have not tried a different audio cable - might try that tomorrow unless I chuck the whole thing
MTH DCS consumer loader 5.0
Make sure that the jumper cable is removed and that the TIU is power before using the Option./Search function.
I noticed that the TIU file on the desktop does not look like the icon has fully loaded. It is just blank white with DCS 5.0. No image. I don't know that this would affect the ability for the computer to "locate the TIU" though
Ding Dong the witch is dead!
got it done - bad stereo cable.
Thanks to everyone for their input and help
Was the problem that the jumper cable was mono rather than stereo, or was it a defective stereo cable?
Defective stereo cable - plugged into my truck aux and determined it was not working. Very staticky etc. went bought a new one worked like a charm. The old cable had been laying around the house - thought it would just plug in and work
