Hi all,

I'm stumped.  I'm trying to upgrade my TIU/Remote to v6.0.  I'm connecting to the TIU via the USB connection and using the consumer loader v5.0.  After quite a few attempts, I was able to upgrade the TIU.  I'm now trying to upgrade the remote.  I have the USB to the TIU and the phone cord to the remote (connected to the remote input connector on the TIU).  When I start the "send code to the remote" sequence, everything progresses as expected until the "press and hold the power button" prompt.  I press and hold, click OK, and I'm prompted to "release the power button".  I have never been able to get past that cycle.

Any thoughts?

Four things...

Make sure the TIU is powered off (red LED is out), remove cable between the ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports, and power on the TIU.

Ensure that phone cable is 4-conductor.

Ensure there are no bent pins in the TIU Input port or the Remote Input port.

Make certain the remote is off and stays off during the entire upgrade process.

Thanks for your help and response Barry,

I have removed the cable between the ProtoCast and ProtoDispatch ports and power cycled the TIU multiple times.

The phone cable is 4 conductor.

The pins look straight and there is no abnormal resistance when I insert the cable to either the TIU or the remote.

"Make certain the remote is off and stays off during the entire upgrade process" has me a little confused.  It's off when the process starts and when I'm prompted to press and hold, The power comes on.  Is this maybe where I'm going wrong?

Brian,

I'm prompted to press and hold, The power comes on.  Is this maybe where I'm going wrong?

Yes, that's exactly where is the problem. You must press and hold, click OK, and continue to hold until told to release. The power must not come on!

Typically, you will be told to press and hold; told to release; told to press and hold again for about 5 minutes; and told to release at the end of the update.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm beating a dead horse.  When I press the power button, there is a splash page that displays the software version that comes on immediately...even while holding the power button.

The sequence I'm observing while holding the power button is;  The display shows the splash screen, the screen shows the operating page, the screen shows the power down - saving data page.  It stays on the last "saving data" page until I release the power button.

When I press the power button, what should I see?  Is seeing that splash screen normal?

When this happens, be sure to power off the TIU before the next try.  I have also had this happen a few times when doing upgrades at York, and it appears to sometimes be caused by the remote's power button top having to be lower than the case, meaning that the flat face on the clamp I use doesn't quite hold the button in far enough.

Gentlemen,

I have indeed successfully completed the update.  I can't be 100% certain, but I think reversing the phone cable from the TIU to the remote made the difference.  I had tried reseating both sides of the cable multiple times with no luck.  My assumption; one end of that cable was just enough out of tolerance that it wouldn't make a good connection.

But most importantly, it's done!  And now I'm at the most current software for both my DCS and Legacy.
