Hi Everyone,

I own a MTH premier Lehigh Valley alco S2 w/PS2 (20-2939) that I recently purchased.  The sound  from this locomotive is not very loud -  if I place it next to one of my MTH PS3 locomotives,  I can hardly hear my alco.  Has anyone else noticed this with their PS 2.0 S2 switchers?

What I would like to do, is upgrade this locomotive to PS3 electronics.  The speaker and board that comes with the PS3 upgrade kit, will they fit in a premier Alco S2 switcher?   Several years ago, I successfully upgraded my PS1 Greenbrier to PS2, so based on that experience, I'm hoping this upgrade should not be much trouble.

I'd first try replacing the battery, and then the speaker with a good 4 ohm speaker.  Also, the S2 has a pretty small speaker, and it won't be as loud as the larger locomotives.  My guess is there's nothing wrong with the PS/2 board in that unit.

In the event you were considering changing the board you need a PS32 board for that locomotive.  A diesel PS3 upgrade requires replacing all the wiring harnesses as it's LED based. Also, it's a very tight fit in that one, so that could be an issue.  Chances are good you'd have to, at a minimum, lengthen some of the wire harnesses.  The speaker in any of the PS/3 upgrade kits does NOT fit in that unit.
