I have an old Weaver Milwuakee Atlantic which has died and is a good candidate for converting/upgrading to a new TMCC system. What is the choice for TMCC with cruise control and good sounds for this locomotive?
Anybody had experience with a vendor doing this type of upgrade?

The "classic" conversion would be the ERR Cruise Commander and one of the RailSounds Commander models. You can go to www.electricrr.com and click on the Purchase link. There you can click on sound samples for each of the available steam locomotives and select the sounds you like.

Naturally, for superior smoke performance, I'd recommend the Super-Chuffer as well, but maybe I'm biased.
