I run mostly command , but I wired my layout to be able to run conventional using variable 1 and 2, each of which is wired to a separate loop.

In command mode everything works fine. Recently I have been looking to run postwar  My variable 1 is working correctly.

However, variable 2 is not variable.

Is do not have it set as fixed in dcs setup.

The loop is electrically isolated from all other parts of the layout  When I disconnect variable 2 output at the tiu, the loop is dead, even though the rest of layout is powered, so no bleeding from track.

On remote, when I select off for any of the channels in dcs setup they do not turn off. AOF does not turn the channels off.

Suggestions?

Jeff,

Your description of the problem is somewhat vague.

Just to be clear:

  • When you use the DCS Remote to set Variable 2 to be in variable mode by:
    • Pressing Menu/System/DCS Setup
    • Selecting Variable 2
    • Pressing FXD once or twice until you see "channel in Variable mode"

Variable 2 stays in Fixed mode. Is this right?

  • When you press AOF the DCS signal stays on on all channels.

Are the above 2 things what you're doing, or are you doing something else?

Yes, correct, that is what I am doing.

Var 1 will change between fixed and variable  but var 1 channel, and all channels, also (like var 2) will not turn off either in reply to off or aof (not that I want to turn off, just providing you this information for diagnosis).  If I turn var 1 down to zero or use tzv when in variable mode it does go off.

But main problem is that var 2 is fixed only and not variable even when remote says it has been put in variable mode in reply to pushing the fxd button.

Jeff,

Just to be certain, when you say you're "turning a channel off" using the AOF soft key, you do know that what that does is turn off the DCS signal on all channels, it doesn't turn off track power, or affect track power in any way, correct?

If the remote states that Variable 2 is in variable mode but it actually still is in Fixed mode, then there's most likely a hardware issue with the TIU.
