Scroll up the voltage and then use the ENG.

Or   Menu/System/ DCS set up/ Select the var  channel you're using and hit FXD.. The FXD key is dual purpose ... each time you press it ,it changes the channel from fixed to var mode. There is a slight delay when fxd mode is selected. The remote should show which mode you selected.

Jeff,

The easiest way to run your conventional engines is to set the Var Channel to Fixed and use Barry's OGR Companion instructions to program the TIU TR function.  Set your Transformer @ 18 Volts, in this manner all you need do is select TR mode on the hand held, pick the track number and turn up the voltage using the thumb wheel, to run your Conventional engine.  Turn the thumb wheel down to shut off the Conventional when you want, the direction button works also.  When you want to run P2 engines, simply push the green engine button on the Hand Held, and use start up and turn up the wheel to move your P2 engine, once you get the hang of it you can actually run both P2 and Conventional engines on the same track at the same time switching back and forth, from the TR mode to the P2 engine mode, with the hand held remote, controlling both engines, or simply  run one at a time at different time, using the different modes.  If you have the Z4K and the side receiver you can run in the Z4K TR mode also, lots of different running options, way cool stuff.

Jeff,

Using the directions as I told you in Barry's book, you set the Channel to fixed and leave it, you control both modes from the DCS hand held remote control, picking either the TR mode or the Green Engine button, you do not need to switch any thing else.

Simply run which ever engine you want using the hand held remote control, read how this is done in Barry's book, you must follow the directions to set the TIU by using the hand held remote control, to make this happen.  If you have the Z4K & the side receiver you must program this Z4K TR mode also, to run conventional engines in either of the 2 TR modes.  Once you set this up you then control everything from the hand held remote control, you do not need to reprogram your Var channels to fixed each time you want to run different kinds of engines, your hand held will do everything for you.
