For those you that don't know, Eric's review of the 3rd Rail Virginian EL-2B in the OGR Run 308, the "air hoses" that he refers to on the underside going to the truck assembly actually represent the delivery hoses for the rail sander.
In real life, air supplied to the the sanding valve, which in turn creates a jet that is blown into the hose. This sucks sand from the sandbox and travels down the hose to a nozzle mounted right in front of the drive wheel.
