Best day of Hooky from work EVER.

We learned the NS OCS was departing Morrisville, PA for points west this morning.  My son begged me to stay home from work and find the train.  We first went to Harrisburg station thinking the train would go by there.  No one knew anything about it.  A nice fellow called the tower and there were no reports of an OCS train.  They also would not allow us to go out on the platform unless we were riding an AMTRAK train.

So east we went... we stopped at what I thought was a great location in Hershey right were Rt 743 crosses over the tracks.  We found a side road, parked off to the side and waited in a nice grass area.  There was plenty of room and a fence to keep people off the tracks... but good enough for viewing.  After about 10 minutes a man with a Hershey name tag told me I was trespassing and he called the Derry Twp police.  I apologized and said I did not see any signs.  His reply... "Just because it doesn't say you can't, doesn't mean you can.  Now the cops are coming and they will ticket you".  I told my son if he ever grows up to be mean like this guy I would kick his butt.  We got in the truck and left.

We went further east and stopped in Palmyra.  The old train station is now a Train Shop.  Unfortunately it was closed.  There were 3 other people down the tracks with tripods, so I knew something good was going to happen.  We waited about 15 minutes and then... SUCCESS.

You can hear my son in the background of the video.  He was so excited.  This will be one of those days we remember for quite a while.

Enjoy the video.

Ron,

What can I say... that video -- and especially your son's voice on the audio -- is simply an example of "what's right in the world today."

Nothing more really needs to be said aside from the undeniable fact that simply hearing the excitement in his voice just makes one's heart smile and feel good... like, "YES!!! There are still some things right in this crazy world today."

Hope you never forget the quality time you shared with your son on this outing.  As for the other fellow who called the cops... he's just another loser that the world has more than enough of these days.  Focus on the good moments of the day, as I'm sure they were PRICELESS.

Thanks for sharing... it made my night!

David
