WBB Genesis Amtrak Engines

I have the WBB units and both WBB streamliners and K-Line 18" cars

The AA set may make the height difference less evident since the sloped end of the trailing unit would be facing the passenger consist.

thanks RailRide for the pictures. this is what I wanted to see, not going to buy the genesis engines.

 

I guess I will take my wbb E7 southern AA set and strip the paint off the shell's, power the second A unit, install proto 2.0 sound. I can run them with a black roof, silver paint, and just keep looking for decals.

 

can you post more pictures of the mth amfleet cars...

What sort of views are you looking for?

Just an FYI on the WbB units and the real locos.........

The Amtrak units are a good bit taller than Amfleet equipment and when they pull 'heritage' passenger cars as they do on the Fall New River trips.....they stand taller than them too.

I have a set of WbB units for my Cardinal train and like them together.

any views would be nice.

I am trying to build the train for the first 5 years of amtrak.

I wanted to use the wbb E7 AA set I have and repaint in amtrak colors, but I can't find any decals in PH II or III.

 

YOu maybe better off Searching for a Weaver and/or MTH E8's. The E7's will look awkward since e7's were pretty much gone by the time amtrak came to play.

 

After the e8's it's the F40's and or the SDP40's . MTH painted F45's in railking scale and released back in Jan. you are better to get those than a genesis.

I too like modeling the different eras of Amtrak. I have ridden since day one and like the different equipment.  I don't have any E-8's yet.....but have these FP-45 standing in for SDP45'......I painted them myself as the old William paint job was too far off for me.

You really can't tell the difference if you put a WBB E7 next to any E8 from K-line, lionel or mth. I think they would sharp pulling a amtrak train, might even try to pick up a E7 B unit too.

Like my FP45 standing in for sdp45 ......E7 can do the same for E8's....after all we run on 3 rails!!!

The Mth Amtrak E-8 are in the 2013 Vol.2

If you are modeling the first 5 years a black E8, F7 or GG1 in PC or Amtrak white words only would work as well.

do you know of any place I can buy Phase II amtrak decals for diesels. my 4 21" cars are phase II not phase III.

Microscale made a very nice set at one time.....but it is not in their current catalog and doubt it will return. The only solution is to get 299 friends and get a custom run made!!!

I made my Amtrak decals but there is too much white in Ph II decals to make them.

Why couldn't the red and blue stripes be printed on white decal stock?

They could be done that way. It's just a very manual method many will not want to attempt.

You could look for a set of Weaver E8s also.  They are reasonably priced now and both locomotives are powered with the rear unit starting in reverse.  I got my A-B-A set at auction for $140 and they are painted in Phase II paint. Other early Amtrak power included a few F7s (I believe from BN?) and FP7s from SP.  None lasted very long.

 

E7s were used by early Amtrak but none were painted in Amtrak colors.  The former GM&O E7s pulled Amtrak out of the Chicago area for a few years.  Penn Central's E7s were mostly pulling commuter trains at that point with the last one being retired in 1978.

Here are my Weaver E8s pulling a completely non-prototypical train.

 

 

IIRC.....these can be Amtrak locos.......at least for that time period after SRR finally turned over passenger service and Amtrak just ran the SRR equipment!!!

But I agree the Weaver E8's are easy to find and very nice!

 

Did Southern give up in 1980? I grew up in Alexandria VA so I should know this. I would love to make some more Amtrak competitor trains. The original Autotrain in red white and purple left from Lorton VA around the same time as well.
