I saw this on everyone's favorite auction site today. A Weaver brass Southern Pacific 4-8-2. It looks nothing like a Southern Pacific MT class 4-8-2 but I assume it has to be based off of some kind of 4-8-2. Does anyone have any history as to which prototype Weaver's brass 4-8-2 is based off of?

Weaver made a couple of variations of the front end detail on that model, early and late. The one you saw on ebay is the early version painted as an S.P. MT class 4-8-2.

I guess Weaver was trying to hit a large market with the model. Unfortunately I know what a SP MT class looks like and the Weaver model does not look like a MT class locomotive, even prior to the MT class getting skyline castings. Plus it's not even numbered in the 4300 class.
