I recently purchased a Weaver 3 rail John Wilkes. Looks like it was never run as it has no noticeable wear on wheels or pick up rollers. Read through the operation instructions and it seems to be stuck in the initial reset state on power up. Lights come on but that's it. Tried replacing the battery with a BCR but no change.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I'm no expert, but isn't a BCR used for PS-1 locos? I may be misinformed. I have the Weaver Black Diamond, which I believe is similar and has TMCC, as does my Weaver VO1000. No issues with either. Mark
The engine has MTH protosound with a rechargeable 8.4 volt battery. Also, I don't get any dings or start up sound.

You're stuck in RESET. Getting out can be complicated. Almost everyone has this challenge, especially if they don't use their stuff very often. It's worse if you have the older models, c. 1994-1995.

I don't have anything to offer but I do have a question - how did you manage to get the John Wilkes tender shell off of the tender chassis? It's no problem removing the screws and separating the shell from the chassis. The problem I have is the curvature of the shell on the bottom is such that I cannot find a way to maneuver the shell/chassis to separate the two.

It took a bit of care moving the chasing forward and aft until I got one end to come free. Then I was able to pull the other end out once it was started. It is a tight fit.
