The “your favorite Weaver” car thread that Jim Sutter started has held my interest through 11 pages. I don’t want to hijack his thread with this question so, I’m posting it separately.
In 1996, Weaver did a custom run of Vesuvius Crucible PS-1 covered hoppers. These were produced in three different road numbers, 2000, 2012 and 2020. I was reminded of these cars recently while rewatching a video of Dave Minarik’s layout. Dave has two of these cars being switched into a custom built Vesuvius Crucible plant on his home layout.
After reading how many custom cars Jim had commissioned for his store, I kind of thought these Vesuvius Crucible covered hoppers might be one of his, given their connection to the Pittsburgh area. A private email to Jim resulted in a quick response advising these were not cars he had done.
So; I throw this out to the Forum at large. Does anyone know who commissioned the custom run of these cars back in 1996?
