We started work on the train station project this week. There is a lot of work to do in this area including the installation of two fountains on either side of the front of the station, striping of the roads and parking lots, adding accessories, and installing trees and goose-neck street lights in the grass area between the street and benchwork edge. However the renovation project is really moving along.
Brian WOW your Passenger Terminal looks TOTALLY AWESOME!!! It looks like how I like to think"ON THE BIG SIZE". It all looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us.
Brian...I appreciate the sneek peak before you posted the picture of your new station. Alex certainly created a masterpiece! The renovations and updates to your layout have turned out nothing short of magnificent!!

Wednesday I helped move PRR 9331 from Strasburg to Walkersville. I tried my best to get a photo of 9331 in front of Fridays at York. Like photo's of Bigfoot you can see the engineers cab window behind the trucks signal bar on the roof if you look hard enough you will see the black. The traffic was a bear and the advertising truck blocked Fridays in a blink.
Ever try to move a real locomotive through York in rush hour??? Toy trains are allot easier.
Here are links to the photos of the load out and shots along the line. You can recognize the shots along the line if you go to York. I started a thread on the real train forum. My friend Dave took all of these shots.

Happy Friday guys.
RUN SOME TRAINS!
This past Tuesday night the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers had a work session where we constructed a couple of items, one being my first module. Here it is:
The only wood work left is to construct the legs. In the mean time, there is cork to be laid and some painting before track is laid and wired.

Brian - Wow! Your new station is fantastic! The size of it really compliments your roster of passenger trains and makes a bold statement. Your idea and Alex's craftsmanship produced a great, one-of-a-kind station for your layout. Very nicely done. It also looks like your new scenery partner is up to the job.
The improvements to your layout are really looking good. You have greatly enhanced the "wow factor"!

J. Daddy your Track, balasting and Rock work look VERY NICE!!
Hello Brian:
Its hard to tell, but is that a New Mexico Railrunner engine and cars in the center area?
If so, who made them, they look like K-Line but I don't remember K-line offering that paint scheme.
Looks really nice.

Thanks, Steve......I've planned for 8" tiles.

Here are my two latest purchases.
The first is a GGD 54' Express Reefer in REA's 1947 as delivered colors. This color scheme did not last long, but fits perfectly into my late 40s era layout.
The second is a K-Line 21 inch aluminum PRR combination car. I have the second run of the 8-car set without the combine, so this gives me a 9-car train.

Bill:
Thanks for your positive comments. The station was a combined effort of Alex A. who did the construction and my design thoughts. Since we had a large space to use, the bigger the better in this instance.
Alan:
Also thank you for your kind remarks.
Art:
You and I talk frequently and you had a good idea what to expect with this station. Thank you for your compliments.
Charlie:
You are very observant. This is indeed the Rail Runner which is a custom conversion job all the way utilizing a K-Line set that started out as a Metro Link commuter train.
Russell:
You had this pegged all the way.
Brian - That Newport Bridge looks beautiful in the first picture.... I have not seen an overview of your layout. It is impressive. Love the modeling of the waterfront, great yard area and now a huge passenger terminal... Keep going..
I stopped by the Gaithersburg Maryland B&O station this evening on my way home. They have a B&O Budd RDC car on display, a B&O/Chessie Caboose, and Buffalo Creek & Gauley 2-8-0 #14 on display. The RDC and 2-8-0 recently underwent major restoration and look ready to run. Per the city, repainting and exterior restoration of the caboose will begin soon. The interior of the caboose has been fully restored already. The RDC and caboose provide further museum display space and are open when the town museum is open which is located in the freight house.
Seen here are the ex-B&O CPL signals from "Wards" located about half a mile behind me. CSX recently upgraded all of the signals here, removing the B&O CPLs so common on this line. My understanding is a few are in private collections, most were scrapped. The City of Gaithersburg was able to save this one. From what I was told, the plan is to restore it to operation and raise it near the other rail equipment.
The Gaithersburg complex looking west. A MARC commuter just arrived as I pulled in. The station area was recently re-done removing many old industrial tracks, one display track, and the switch to the CSX mainline.
The caboose, as with the rest of the equipment has been fully restored. The interior is very authentic and exterior restoration will begin shortly.
This is the Buffalo Creek & Gauley #14, a 2-8-0. These photos were taken in January 2012 just after restoration was finished. It still looks brand new.
Finally finished up on Clements' Point named for a fallen colleague and friend. The tracks ( not visible) are just beneath the bluff.
To include a train in the post, here is the mainline crossing beneath Clements' Point.
Have a nice weekend everyone! Bo
Nice pics today everybody.
Aubv I love your abandoned quarry. Beautiful model work. I used to swim in one years ago that had a crane in the bottom with the boom sticking straight up. It was so clear you could see the bottom and the boom still did not break the surface. Very cool.
This could also fit in: "What did you do on your layout today?"
Back in the 1980's, my now late father-in-law was taken by my large O-gauge layout, and constructed a number of structures for it. My favorite was "Dallas (PA) Penn Station."
Here's a photo of the platform area in the 1980's, and another today after I wired the lights on the first of 4 train sheds. Lots more to do, but you can see that BEEP people have replaced silhouettes, and MTH RDCs are now in service in addition to Lionel ones. Old-time LCCA members might remember seeing the 1980's shot in THE LION ROARS.

Brian,
Everything looks so beautiful, You and Elizabeth have created such a beautiful scene. Your entire layout is just fabulous.
Thanks, Alex
Thanks Alex for your kind words. You have been a big part of our renovation project with the additions to our refinery, staircases for the new train station going to the upper level, and the fabulous job you did no our new train station. Everything I asked for you did with excellence and you expanded so well on my basic ideas. The train station is fabulous and is a perfect fit for the intended area. We both thank you very much for all you have done for us.
Wood, big thanks to you for your positive comments.
My wife and I went up to Cheyenne today for Cheyenne Depot Days. It is the only time that you can get into the UP steam shop and roundhouse.
Yes I asked the hosts the two main questions on everyone's mind:
1. What is happening with Big Boy 4014?
and
2. Will 3985 run again?
As for the 4014 everyone said, "You probably know more than we do!"
One person echoed Hot Water's remarks in that all of the Big Boys had been inspected long ago to see if any were in restorable condition and decided none were eligible.
He also wondered if the current track alignments could handle them.
They really didn't have any real news to offer.
As for the 3985 one person said it would be running in 2-3 years and that its boiler time was almost up so it needed new flues. I assume this also means the full FRA treatment.
Another person said that he wondered if it would run again.
In any case they were very nice and I enjoyed seeing the equipment again.
Here are some of the pictures.
Enjoy!

Of course I have a bunch of other pictures. Let me know if there is something you want to see and I'll post a picture if I have it.
On Train Day our Northeast Florida Model Railroad club hosted an open house.
Here is a photo of my double helix in operation. I don't seem to have the talent to paint a background so I just decorated it with a cutout of an old hero. I called him the "Supervisor of Fun".

Here are some pics of my new Williams SP Cab Forward. Actually it's not brand new. I bought it from fellow forumite, Scale Rail. It's very cool! Thanks Don!
PART 2
I'm probably committing an OGR felony here. I know this is about trains, but I had to share a couple of non-train pics. Besides real and my toy trains, I love World War II aviation. For my birthday, in March, my children gave me a certificate for a ride on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Well...today was the day! I flew out of Moffet Naval Air Station in Mountain View, CA. Absolutely awesome...so I thought I'd sneak the pics in. Thank you my daughter, Jessica and my son, Anthony. Matt
