It's planting time for those of us who like to garden, so I didn't get too much done on the layout this week. But I snapped this image on my phone of the sand enclosure at the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Plant (US Silica today) plant at Mapleton and noticed it bore a strong resemblance to a photo I took of the prototype just a few years ago:
A few weeks ago I posted pictures of a Lionel engine house that I modified to look like the structure in the background of the prototype shot because they were so similar which I think is pretty obvious when you compare this two photos.
Now here are a few of an excavator being used to move sand that has been dumped out of trucks into the bin where the sand is carried by conveyor belts into the plant for processing. There is a lot of work to be done as far as weathering the excavator, not to mention finding a figure to install in the cab. All of the conveyor belts have yet to be built. I was careful to add the tracks in the sand from the excavator as well as passing trucks:
And in more of an overall shot, an eastbound NS train including a BNSF unit in the consist can be seen heading east towards Enola Yard. I'm still trying to figure out what the use to move the sand hoppers in the plant, but today my son thinks it may be a trackmobile, so there you see mine sitting on on of the sand covered siding tracks:
Finally, when I searched for this week's edition, I saw the final post from last week had a question about this shot from last week showing some autos parked at the plant office:
I think they wanted to know where I got them. Except for the Kinsmart 68 Impala on the right which I found a few years ago at York in a large tray with them in three colors, the others are much older and I have no idea where I found them. The 68 impala should still be available and cost all of $8 as I recall. But I will say this...I try to find four door cars, or at least more typical cars such as this. No Corvettes, Porsches, or Mercedes on my layout depicting rural Pennsylvania. I also try to make them era appropriate, so only the Chevy in the center will make the final cut. I love the others, but they belong on other parts of the layout which depict different eras.
Now, back to planting flowers and doing yard work!
New York Central F-12 ten-wheeler #1232 is a recent Lionel Legacy model. The smokebox color should be graphite – not gray. Lionel shows one color in its catalog and then delivers another. Unsatisfactory in my opinion, but I decided to keep the model because it is otherwise very nice and runs well.
Locomotive #1232 was built by Alco Schenectady in October 1905 as F-2 #2098. It was superheated around 1917, renumbered to #819 in 1936 and to #1232 in 1948. The engine weight was 199,500 pounds and it produced 31,020 pounds of tractive force. NYC #1232 had inward-slanted cylinder-chests with the valve mechanism inside the frame. Prototype photos also show F-12 engines with upright cylinder-chests and outside valve gear, as they appear on the model. Ten-wheelers operated on the New York Central’s Putnam Division until September 1951. Engine #1232 was retired in July 1952.

I think Rich and Ed are waving to each other.

GLC Railroad locomotive #392 approaches the double diamond at 25 mph. (50mm lens)
We are now just past the midday sun at about 2 PM. This was shot with a fisheye lens at 220 degrees. This lens can max out at a full 360 degrees. This lens makes for a lot of photographic fun.

If I am not out rail-fanning, I’m thinking about it. 😎 Have a great weekend. Hope to see you out rail-fanning. Gary 🚂

Wonderful photos and videos everyone! Gary your blue skies and beautiful trains are very happy photos! Scott thanks for hosting this thread each week!
For this fine weekend, a potpourri of photos taken by the company photographer. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Be safe = Be well!
Night trains.
A work train crew gets the job done.
In the early morning as the sun's first rays peak through, a freight rolls by the tower with TOFC cars.
Brakeman Hank Wolfert on the job.
MOW workers are busy bees as a boy rides by and observes from his bike.
The beehive of activity is evident as a 2065 Hudson eases its' train into the station.
Another temp 7’x9’ layout built out of boredom. I’ve already shown images of the 1st one (Easter) and decided I enjoyed that enough to do another. This was built back in mid-February. As I’ve mentioned before with my Easter temp layout, I have so many beautiful Christmas pieces that I could never use them all on my 11’x14’ Christmas layout and I dislike having them just sit in boxes where I don’t get to enjoy seeing them, so I did this temp Christmas layout

Getting ready for tomorrow's show.....we all are very excited!
I detailed the factory with "air rights" over the ROW with smoke stains left over from the steam era......
Have a great and safe weekend, folks!

Last week Lionel had a custom building contest on Facebook. I submitted my tinplate skyscrapers and won a $25.00 gift certificate. Thanks Lionel
This week I have nearly completed the largest tin skyscraper at the club. This building is painted in Polar Express Colors and is 18 inches wide and 36 inches tall.
I have two more buildings to finish for my standard gauge downtown.

Thanks Scott for putting on another great Photo Fun and congrats on your winning the gift from Lionel. Some really nice pictures everyone. Steve I really like the job done on the Trainmaster and you are correct, it is hard to tell it is a Railking locomotive, I would have never guessed it. Melgar, I liked your locomotive, too bad Lionel isn't better on their QC anymore, maybe Atlas will make them try a little harder. I got the Lionel Legacy 4-6-0 in the Texas & Pacific road name and I'm very happy with the way it runs and I had forgotten that I had a set of T&P heavy weight passenger cars to go behind it, I was tickled pink when I found them on the shelving unit, hopefully I'll have some picks of them for next weekends PF. Have a good weekend everyone.
Here's a couple of photos of the "almost finished" area of my small 2-rail layout(top level). The lower level is an extension of the larger 3-rail layout in the adjacent bonus room over the garage. As you can see the railroad is in the process of installing new crossbucks.

Very nice looking layout Dave! Excellent scenery.
Thank you kindly Mr. Schorr!

Great photos, everyone! I decided it was too nice a day to work on the layout(s) in the basement, so I took a video of the outdoor layout. I’m waiting to receive a new S4 from Charles Ro with more pulling power than the little 0-6-0.

Outstanding video, Scott. Simply outstanding. Makes me want to set up my Christmas tinplate layout right now.

Construction is underway.
The parade at the Disney Park.
A busy city street.
At the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL, tonight for a rare nighttime operation event. They were running the #5 J.Neils Lumber Company shay by itself tonight for photo runbys. Nice to hear the whistle echo across the farm fields after sunset.

Now that is a picture. Oh I have been missing Steamtown. Haven't been up there since Labor Day Weekend 2019. Not sure when I'll be back up there, maybe next year, who can say.
Picked up a second-hand MTH 4-4-0 today, so had a little photo session (with background replacement). Finally a steamer that's a little closer to the era of my diorama!
Probably will eventually seek out a local re-painter to re-roadname the tender from 'B&O' to 'Canadian Northern' someday
