Nothing too fancy this week and perhaps a mystery ?
Scored another BBR1 Brake/reversing rail for Hornby 2-rail
And while I was there I threw down another couple of £'s for a motor assembly ... Basicaly for shytes n giggles
I think it might be an early British Marx that has mayhaps has some "re-porpoising" ( thanks Flipper! )
Picked up this repro of a Paya trolley with ideas of re-motoring for O-gauge:
That motor of Fatman's looks like a good fit...

This I found Saturday: This rather modern looking tinplate Distler station with its remarkable clock tower was first catalogued in 1938. This example is marked "Made in US zone" so it must be early postwar. There is no difference in street side or platform side except for a larger area in front. The middle doors can be opened. The dimensions are 24 * 17 * 17. The doors are rather small. I do not know for what gauge it was made but they are even small for H0/00 gauge.

Not strictly train related but I found something to power my old Carrette windmill
Found here in Aussie a J.L.Hess Dynamobil inertia Motor from the 20's
( needs a heck of a clean , and is missing the top cover , but rare enough and bargain basement enough to make me not mind lol )
Will run for a minute or so and was designed to run things like steam engine accesories , Hess produced a number of these as well , roller mills , hammers , hammermills etc
Postwar "tinplate" style!

Engine shed by BIBG circa 1910, unfortunately the roof has been repainted but still a nice accessory. this one is for use with live steam models as there is a pair of chimneys on the top.

DANIEL: LOVE your engine shed! ☺ ratpak: LOVE that motorcycle and also Roman Holiday, with two of my favorite actors: Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn!
CHRIS: VERY NICE goods wagon! ☺
Keep 'em coming! ☺
Well the train collecting virus is spreading. Last week it was Ives, this week its Dorfan (I mostly blame Papa Eastman for encouraging this phase of my malady).
I really like the tinplate passengers who travel the Dorfan Lines.
All of these cars are lighted and have their bulbs in place, however the baggage car is the only one that worked right out of the box.
They need some cleaning up and the wheels on one car have the dreaded Zinc Pest. They will be a project for this time of social distancing. I picked them up on an impulse while browing ebay in three separate Buy It Now auctions. The engine for the set was offered too in a separate auction; I was hesitant because of the price and knowing the kind of work that Steve and his buddies have put into restoring crumbling engines. When I went back looking for it, it was gone. Now I regret my hesitation. Did anyone here get that engine?
They really are a stunning set and heavy as lead.
Once I start unpacking the collection I will find a Flyer steamer to pair them up with.
Maybe this one;
or this one
or this one.
Have a Great Tinplate Weekend
and wash your hands.

GREG: NICE Dorfan! ☺ LOVE those passengers!
Just a little Marx from the collection. Picked up the passenger cars about a year and a half ago, only recently got a chance to take a picture of them with the 495 I got from my grandfather. Maybe once things settle down a little hear I’ll dig out some more of my tinplate.

The motor is postwar Marx. It would have been used in the earlier E7 type diesels.

Keep an eye out. They sometimes show up in green as well as a red SF Cable Car. I bought two with the same intent to motorize.

Any Idea on why I can no longer QUOTE in a reply ? My options to do so is no longer at the bottom of the post replaced by a where the left one only provides an option to quote the link location ?
The settings wheel only has report reply and printer friendly format options ?

Fatman, me too. That's weird. It's after midnight eastern here so we'll have to wait until they get it fixed. Lots of ridiculous stuff happening with the site this week.
MikeH and Fatman - yup, there's all kinds of things going on with the changeover in forum format. For awhile everything was opening up in light gray. That's went away (whew!) and has been replaced with the white boxes with a color code line over on the left side of the post box - I'm assuming that's what is wanted. At the moment, the other thing not working is the little like-box counts and the tally for likes by your name in the upper right hand corner of the web page. I'm sure it will get sorted out eventually.
Terry Hudon,
That Maroon Columbia car is nice. Just be aware that the Columbia cars come in both brown and maroon, with the maroon color being late and harder to find. There was never a brown observation Columbia car, as American Flyer did not start making observation cars until 1925 and the maroon color was apparently introduced in 1925.
As for the green Illini cars, there are also 2 colors of the green cars, dark green and light green. The Illini observation cars do come in both dark green and light green variations, with the light green observation being the more common variation. This points to the transition of dark green to light green occurring in 1925-1926.
For some clarification on the colors, here is a brown coach
Here is the maroon observation
Dark green observation
Light green observation

Ran some Ron Fox Models tinplate over the last week on a temporary layout I set up. Ron Fox made a line of Hornby compatible tinplate wagons between 1983 and 1986. The ones shown are 2 prototype wagons that he made as samples to take to HRCAA meetings.

I knew this didn’t look correct, but it did look nice and the seller said it ran well so I made an offer. Got it today and it is stunning. I contacted the seller to see if he knew the history because I’ve never seen a NYC Mogul from CMC/CMT plus the gloss paint did not look right. Ends up the seller made from the blue and red Bicentennial set. He did well.

been keeping an eye out for one of those Marx freight terminals. Found a couple pretty good deals on FB, but they won't ship. Probably cost too much anyway,

Artful Dodger - nice station and freight house, but what can you tell me about that phone booth (tardis)?
That looks like a Dr. Who phone booth toy.

How do you find all this unusual stuff, especially on the west coast? Are you just a magnet for it?
Steve makes all this stuff in his secret workshop in his basement.....

I usually browse eBay late at night. This one was a buy it now or make offer that had just been listed. I made an offer $100 less than the buy it now price and it was accepted within a few minutes. Wasn’t there long enough for anyone else. Just a bit of luck in timing. Also at shows, my friends know my interests and they will come get me if they see something I might be interested in. A little help doesn’t hurt either.

No problem for me. It's under the little gear lower right. Maybe yours is working now?

Will, Fatman’s post was apropos a couple days ago. The “reply with quote” capability was just added back to OGR this morning per Rich Melvin.
Another of my favorite streamliners, the Marx Mercury in New York Central livery. We've had this set for more than twenty years; this is actually two sets combined, with a slight difference in the gray color between them. And of course it's Marx, so its a speed demon!
