I have been going to York since 1994 and I always come home with something. Sometimes it is what I set out for,

and other times it was too good a deal to pass up!

This year I am looking for a CNJ K-Line or Atlas caboose and I hope to find some Alaska passenger cars.

Wish me luck.

What are you hoping to find?

I won't be there, again, but mostly York is important to me because of what I hear from friends who go and here.  What I want to hear about: MTH making progress on working down sometimes 2+ year wait for their steamers - I have quite a backlog now, and WBB bringing out more 'Streets stuff.  Some more interesting new Legacy steamers would be fantastic, too.

I seem to have no trouble blowing all my train budget, and more, so it is probably a good thing I don't go to York.

For me, K-Line Surfliner passenger cars are high on the list. A stop at Jack Pearce's tables is always fun. And some low cost quality automobiles would be nice as well as a Shell tanker.

Then I am on the hunt for two Forum members who can't attend. A set of MTH L&N passenger cars on the cream/blue color scheme, and by all means, the Lionel 18" High-Level Alaska cars for Forum member Terry.

Well, the last couple York meets we (wife+moi) went without any specific needs for ourselves...and came home with several treasures ($$$!) that we hadn't planned on finding, couldn't pass up.  (Well, yes...we could've passed them by,.....but why?  It's part of Yorkamania...hyperventilation, racing pulse rates, deer-in-the-headlights expressions on the face(), ....all the typical symptoms.)

But we've also had a fairly long list of 'wants' from our friends and customers (LHS) who know we're making the trip.  And THOSE are the most fun items to look for!!  It takes longer to peruse the aisles, though.  When you're just looking for one or two particular items you can move along fairly quickly.  But when some of the items you seek may lurk in those boxes of 'junk' under a table, it's more challenging and time consuming.  Always fun, though!  And my wife is the very best at spotting things like that!

As for Millie and Daisy, our travelling Goldens,....they're always hoping to find new friends and admirers!  They will.  They always do.

Can't wait!!

Well, I help Vince out in the Orange Hall and it's always like Christmas. I have no idea what's in all the ship cases, no time to read them as we pack, haul, and unpack, but if you've ever stopped by the booth, you've seen the 200 to 250 locomotives sitting there begging you to take them home. Imagine having everyone of them in your hands, one after another As we take them out for everyone to "see them, touch the, buy them!" Train heaven! Hopefully he'll have some MTH of Lionel B&O steam.... Yes, sir.... Best locomotive choices in the show! I can't wait! See you there!

Hopefully, several, strayed from their locomotive, and, affordable, coal-fired Vanderbilt

tenders, and, but always a disappointment, new and different locos, cars, and other rolling stock on the  shelves of the various manufacturers in the Orange Hall.  Maybe

Atlas will have one or two intersting new reefers.  Both Lionel and MTH will have

versions of the Little River Logging Co. 2-4-4-2, and the Great Western/Strasburg

decapod?  Naw...never happen.  And then, there is the McKeen car...nope..it won't be

there.  No need to bring any money.

Why are you so negative? York is a time to maybe find a train that has been on your list for some time. If you find it, great if not, the hunt goes on.

Its ts also a time to meet up with friends and make new friends. I totally enjoy my time I spend at York and this one will be my 60th straight time. Think I like it?

If you can't find that one (it is a 1998 model), then perhaps you might want to keep an eye out for the Lionel ExpressTrak version:

I have a couple, and they go really well with Premier-size Amtrak equipment.

My Amtrak train is actually a Railking version, with the Railking 60' streamlined coaches in Phase I pulled by a Phase V Dash 8 (the former Premier tooling as I understand). Is it a prototypical consist? No. I wanted something I see nearly everyday so Phase 5 was a must. The Railking Amfleets are a bit short for me and I've always like the Red/Blue stripes of Phase 1/3 so it works and I like it.

I dug out one of my ExpressTrak cars and measured it. Not counting the couplers, it measures just a bit more then 14 1/2" long (so it's a 57' reefer) by 2 3/4" wide over the equipment hatches at one end, 2 1/2" elsewhere, by 3 3/4" tall. So, it almost matches the size of the RK Amfleets  60-footers, if not the paint scheme.

I have my list made out and at the top is the 2359 B&M GP-9 and the 3419 helo car the last 2 pieces of my original Lionel stuff I had as a kid.

Looking for a Hudson from Williams, maybe a 44 tonner and 36803 animated Santa Caboose. 35135, 35173 North Pole Central passenger cars, some 054 curves and if luck is on my side a ZW transformer.

I'm looking forward to being swept up in all the good energy at York!   You know, perhaps recapturing some of that excitement and joy we all felt on that Christmas morning ( or birthday, Hanukkah, or whenever ) when we received our first set of electric trains and our imaginations just ran wild! Always upon entering the Orange Hall I seem to experience some of this early childhood excitement!   I love everyone's collective ( no pun intended ) passion for trains at York. The fact that all us folks come together, from all over North America, to celebrate ( if you will ) our pure love of trains is absolutely amazing to me! We are from all walks of life, backgrounds and ethnicities. This collective passion for trains inspires me and this is what I know I will find at York! I. always do!

As I have pretty much have all the trains I need ( yeah right !),  I'm not really looking

for any items in particular, although if something jumps out at me for a great price ( or not ) this purchase will only be a bonus to the above!

I've learned that I do not need a list at the York Meet.  The trains always seem to find me and let me know what I want and need.

I hear their voices, they counsel me, they understand, they talk to me.  They tell me things that I should do, they show me things they'll do for you, they talk to me.

Two more weeks!!  Ahhhhh….. what a rush!!

I have a very specific list of items to buy if I find them.  My goal is to not buy anything that is not on the list, but I almost always fail at this goal (I usually find a Weaver or Atlas head-in car I want).

  --Atlas Trainman American-Colloid 40' box, 2002301-1, -2

--Lionel 6-58509 LCCA NS Lighted Eagle 2012 Convention car

  --MTH PRR 2-10-0 Decapod, 20-3254-1 (#4557)

  --K-line 21" LW sleeper K4680-40011 Huron Rapids

  --Weaver PRR H30 Hoppers (24002LD-1, -2, -3, -4) (round herald)

  --Weaver PRR 40' Woodside Gondolas (U26002 -1, -2, -3) (no herald)

  --Atlas O PRR H21a Hoppers 2nd run (6776-17, 6776-18, 6776-19, 6776-20)

Negative?  Whose negative?  I am just a realist open to surprises.  I have found much more in internet auctions than at York over the last several years, which was not true, pre-internet, when collectibles could be found there.    I brought home more from this

fall's Narrow Gauge Convention and the O Scale Convention than I will probably find at York, and they are not even three rail meets.  I am always open to pleasant

surprises, but watch and see.  I bet none of the items on my list above are there.  Nor will there be any of the several other items I did not bother to list above.  Surprise

me!
