Frank I saw your add on the 2 three packs. I did not know you were moving on to S. Good Luck with the S. Does S have a wide choice of road names and products?
Good Day Bill,
Thanks for asking. The fastest growing scale in model railroading in the 21st Century will be S Scale. With Lionel and MTH now going into S Scale diesel locomotives, steam locomotives, rolling stock and track the variety and choice will continue to grow in S Scale.
I like modern mainline freight trains the best. With S Scale I can build a great layout in an 11’ x 13’ spare bedroom. I hope to have a S Scale layout up and running this fall.
Best Regards,
Frank
Frank that all sounds good. About 60 years ago I was running my Lionel Santa Fe Passenger trains( which I still have) and my best friend was running his American Flyer by AC Gilbert. He still has it all but I don'r know if he has run it in awhile. It's nice if the market and demand are growing. You should have some nice choices.

About five years ago I decided to unwrap my old American Flyer set from 1954 for a trip around the Christmas tree. Ended up building a 9 x 12 layout to run two trains. Had to pack up for a move three years ago and increased my "fleet" from the three original engines I had to 12 now. I think S-scale IS the sleeper in model/toy trains. Love the old stuff that needs fixing...
I used to have a favorite "S Scale Hobby Shop" but have been very disappointed with them on the last couple of orders (items listed as "in stock" not actually in stock, not refunding payment on out of stock items until "reminded," etc.)
I'm not naming names because in the past they've always offered great service and I'm hoping my last couple transactions were just glitches. For now though I'd recommend going straight to the manufacturers. Most are happy to sell direct.
Cheers,
Ken
My favorite hobby shop for S scale equipment is Port Lines Hobby Supplies owned and managed by Doug Peck. He knows his stuff and is very reliable. Click here for details:
Also, I like Hoquat Hobbies run by Jeff Wilson. Click here for info:
I have never been disappointed by either of the above two shops.
For product reviews, photos, video clips, questions/answers, etc., I really like the NMRA-affiliated S SIG which is here:
Hope this helps. Enjoy........Ed Loizeaux
Besides the mainstream shops names above I've had very good luck with.
Sidetracks: www.sidetracks.net Some brass, SHS, AM and SSA RTR plus more.
Chicks Hobby Shop: http://chickshobbyshop.com/ Good inventory of PRS kits.
There was another fellow in the San Diego area who had a lot of "S" scale PRS kits, SHS cars and locos and AM passenger cars...among other items. I think it was Whistle Stop but they didn't have a website.
Good Luck!

DesPlaines Hobbies is not only the manufacturer/importer of S Scale America, but is also the only hobby shop with a significant stock of S in the Chicago Area.
Chicagoland Hobbies is planning on stocking MTH S when it comes out, plus has a small stock of Flyer.
Scenery Unlimited is also in the Chicago area, but is not a retail establishment.

John,
I learned later that he was very much into Sn3 locally and had a nice layout. But, I can't remember the name of this hobby shop or his. He actually had a great deal of harder to find S products a few years ago.
