Marty, that sure made this trip worthwhile. I think this is the best 21" set out there for looks and smooth operation. Great job in locating it.

And Brian, you "did good" as well.

The only thing I bought at the Meet was a 1:43 model of the first '53 Corvette concept car, the fastback version. Paid $65. for it at the Diecast Direct booth in the Orange Hall. I went there first at noon on Thursday, and it was the only one they had.

The "find" I'm most excited over was a 1940s cane fishing pole that I bought at a antique mall on the way to York.

I picked up a Morrison's Door factory from the Charlie Ro booth. Those guys were great. I had only known of them through this Forum and their website and didn't know where they called Home. That changed the second I meet them in person. They have the heaviest Boston accents you can imagine and they're very funny with each other. Beside getting an great deal, it was fun interacting with them. It's definitely worth stopping to meet these guys.

Thinking about this on the drive home, I've felt this way for several months, if not years. Simply, there really is nothing being produced that really attracts me. I really have little or no desire to buy thing being made. With two exceptions the MTH Imperial Evolution Hybrid and the MTH 44ton switcher. Other than that, I really am not attracted to the things being produced today.

Anyway, at York I got a few minor things...

*JT's Big Boy Premium smoke (no BB here but I wanted to try it!)

*An MTH Station platform

*2 Department 56 buildings that I will set aside for my Christmas displays.

*Food I really shouldn't have eaten....

I was quite tempted to grab a Williams 44t but I would rather have the 9331 road number (PRR), electrocouplers and cruise.

Anyway, it was great to just get out of the office. I'd rather have a bad day at York than a good day at work!

Hi Brian. I suppose your going to blame me to for buying a Lionel Zepher.  Stand in line my friend there are 3 ahead of you!

Sounds like everybody found scenery items and small accessories for the layout.

What about cars and engines? Where have the deals gone ??

I myself found nothing appealing - both in price or any engines I really got excited about.

Usually look at MTH Premier and Lionel Standard O cars and found nothing new I wanted.

Buying boxcars for $45 or more doesn't seem like the York deal from several years ago.

I was only able to spend Thursday afternoon at York but I did have a productive visit.  I purchased a very nice pair of Pre-war 711 072 switches,  a Pre-war Lionel 120L Tunnel in excellent condition and a very nice display case for a recently purchased 1966 773 Lionel Hudson.  I wish I could have spent all day Friday there as well but Trout fishing and Turkey hunting in the mountains of West "BY God" Virginia took precedence-this time.

I thought I'd seen everything, but apparently not.

What was the hook on this one? For people repairing boxes? I just can't begin to imagine

No sir, I'm not going to blame you.  You've been tried and convicted of this atrocity in absentia!  You along with your co-conspirators Marty and Dotty!  I am an innocent victim here!

And I couldn't be happier!

You must have missed the $12 modern Lionel warranty cards!

As to my purchases, very light so far:

  1. McComas DVDs - "TM Looks Back" and "Toy Train Revue 4"
  2. MTH York car/catalog, and renewed my membership to get the Premier and Railking offerings for 2015.

I'll go back and check some of my "maybe" items.  If they are still there, great, if not, I'll not be terribly disappointed.

I seem to recall somebody listing modern Lionel warranty cards and perhaps some other paperwork right here at a similar price.
I didn't buy any from the listings, nor at the York show.

At the York show, there were many items offered for considerably more than I thought they were worth. I didn't purchase any of those items. Perhaps somebody else did. Perhaps not. Table holders are free to ask whatever they please. Nobody is compelled to buy anything, other than by their own desires.

I had a pretty good York product wise but a great York meeting up with some good friends. Here is what I got (good deals too)

2 Atlas X29 Merchandise Service Boxcars (different numbers) 2 for $65

1 Lionel O Scales Hussky Stack Car dealer marked $65 but was saying make me an offer so I said $50. He said sold.

Two dealers in the Orange Hall were selling the Husky Stacks for $90 to $95.

JohnB

3 diesels

a few freight cars

7-car Canadian Pacific passenger set

4-car CSX Coke Express hopper set

a few paint brushes

a TCA windbreaker

1 DVD

assorted mini tools/accessories

but my favorite purchase may be this new shirt...

Wore it Friday and was stopped on three different occasions by people thinking I was an MTH employee.  At one point, over by the MTH display, I was doing a brisk business accepting cash deposits for new catalog pre-orders.  Made about 700 bucks  'til they got wise to me.

All in all, a great time all around and the most productive (read "expensive") York ever.
