What does perma link have to do with buying and selling on the forum?

It is a permanent static URL/Link that will always point to the selected comment. It is a function of the forum and has no direct relation to buying and selling (except being a feature of the forum)
Can you give an example of how a permalink can be useful?
Providing a link to a specific answer within a forum (here is a permalink to your ask):
How do you insert it ?
Mark
Click on “Take Action” in the post you want to reference, then copy and paste the URL into your post as a link, like this.
Thanks MRMOE5!
You have to hit Post before it becomes a link. I had tried before but since it just looked like a copy of the URL I hadn't tried posting it.

I have been using a technique which essentially gives me a Permalink. I use the Firefox browser and have a convenient "Mail To" button on the browser. Click on it and you mail the page / discussion to yourself or anyone else. You can even set it up to automatically go to a folder. Once a discussion has ended I will often edit it down to the essential comments using a program called Print Edit WE and save as a PDF. j
Maybe I’m misunderstanding the purpose, but when I have wanted to include links to a forum topic in a separate post, I have simply copied the URL into the new post. How is permalink different?
A permalink is to the specific post of a member, not just the topic.
A permalink sets the focus to a specific response where as the topic URL focuses at the top. An example would be where a topic question has 30 answers, and the 25th response has the really well thought out answer and is very correct. A time later, someone else asks the same or similar question needing the same answer. Instead of pointing them to the topic and having to go to the 3rd page to find the answer, a permalink to the specific 25th desired response can be used instead.
Now I get it. Though the whole post still appears, not just the one response, right?
Yes, the whole post still loads, but it is focused on the specific comment.
Hmmm, I thought it was like perma frost?
Jim, a permalink is the exact URL for a specific post, not the more general topic page. The forum has an important use for them, when people put "likes" on posts, it forms a permalink in your alert list. When you click on the topic that the person liked, it returns you to the exact post they liked. I use this feature from time to time when I want to be able to direct the conversation back to something from the past that is relevant. You grab that permalink, and create a link via text, or just raw, in a new post.
