I'm not planning on buying anything new anytime soon HOWEVER......
I recently dusted off my sole remaining childhood Lionel train set, a Pennsylvania 4-4-2 conventional engine. I've got the cars ready to go. The engine was in rough shape. The air whistle, headlight, smoke unit, and a few other things were totally missing. Some other things needed repair. It ran but that was about all it did. I dropped it off at my dealer the other day to be restored to like-new (mechanical) condition. Personally, I'm incredibly excited! My dealer tried to talk me out of it saying it wasn't really worth it, I could just buy a new one, etc- rebuilding my engine could cost just as much and possible more (or less of course) than buying a brand new one. I didn't care. I didn't want a new one. I can't wait to get it back again, finished and back to it's old self.
I don't know if this counts but I am expecting next week delivery of a Lionel scale PRR Atlantic steamer with TMCC and ERR!
I already have too many trains, so I don't have any near-term plans to buy more. Instead I just ordered a new camera - finally getting a good DSLR that will use my existing Nikon lenses. Just ordered a D750 with a 24-120 Nikkor. As an added bonus, it does good video so I can take and post some train videos.
If Lionel makes the USRA Heavy Mikado in Milwaukee Road, I'll probably wind up getting one of those.
It's looking like an 11 car set of GGD El Capitan cars or the 3rd Rail F7 in PRR and 2 rail. It's looking like the El Cap will ship first.
Not a GG-1???
I have ordered a Santa Fe bobtail (A-B-B) rednose F7 and a Santa Fe 2-6-2 from Sunset/Golden Gate.
Newly manufactured is seldom ever on my list (so new streetlamps!).
I read "used often" as "regularly tested" , and it serves me well.
But...on my wanted list-
#1. A cheap, "savable junk", Marx tin tender to paint, to complete my Crusader bash.
(I guess I'm asking too )(a few other "junk" grade tin cars might not kill me)
#2. A nice Lionel tin car set. Preferably a passenger set, but the freight is
sooo nice. Maybe a rough electric, torpedo, or Zephyr if the price is there.
#3. An On30 loco. Down from #1 due to the rising On30 prices. I'd really like a Climax.
Even a Shay, or Heisler would do. But I will likely just get a cheaper, and yet more reliable,Porter.
Or even a low slung Baldwin. Bachmann "Prussian pickle" jobs are pretty sweet.
#4. The "childhood replacement"- #1 on my mind is a working submarine, and clips.
I still have the car . My sub? It dry rotted, and crumbled in the 70's.
Too much bath water exposure
#5. The "Gramps nostalgia replacement" #1 is a Sunoco, lighted, bubbling, oil derrick
#6. I still "need" a car body like E, early F, TA, 3 window, or maybe a Baby Face.
Not on the list, but I am thinking kicking about the thought of a 2036 beater I saw. If he'll haggle just a bit, it is really the most likely to be first in 2015 at this point.
Patiently waiting for the Broadway Limited M1A/B in N scale, or a Kato FEF greyhound.
About two week ago I received the KATO FEF-3 (black) and the 7 car passenger set.
You are probably aware that the first group of cars (will not be lighted) and the engine
(will not have DCC or sound). I purchased from a N scale dealer in New York that installed DCC and sound ( including a tender light) and lighted the 7 passenger cars.
I have not run it as of yet but anything for KATO is "top shelf".
I am also looking forward the to Broadway Limited M1a or b with DCC and sound.
Disappointed that a they moved the delivery date back to March I think.
Had my eye on a Williams Canadian Pacific F3 and passenger set slightly used. I mean, I am never going to get an original Lionel postwar one. But I don't currently have a layout so all my trains are in boxes, I don't have anything else CP my collection is heavilly PRR (not that that stopped me from buying the postwar Santa Fe F3 I always wanted), and I can afford it, but I should probably save the money. Taking this into account, it's still a really sharp looking set!
Also think i'll try to find a beat up postwar 2046, didn't realize how big it was until I saw one in person....
Either or, in order of availability:
1. Williams scale GE 44 tonner.
2. LionChief Plus GP20
Due to a dearth of intersting items (to me) in catalogs to date, nothing "new" is known, but older stuff will be (and has been) found in auctions. Weaver seems kind
of dormant, Third Rail has nothing now I want (except a list ginned out by somebody
who has bought everything they have actually sold so I can tell what got by me)....
so.....when will there be new wish books from the Big Two?
Williams scale GE 44 tonner.
Is this new? Or is it the new Whitcomb? Or the WbB re-pop of old "semi-scale"(but really more like an 80 than 44 ton)?

Trains I got. What I really need to do is get crackin' on the layout.

Funny conincidence, it's your set I have my eye on! Just trying to convince myself to spend the money (always a challenge!). It does look like a really nice set.
To quote RickO: "Lionel's Heavy Mike, whenever it appears".
Louisville and Nashville, in my case.

The WBB GE 44-tonner is indeed a GE 44-tonner, 1:48 scale.
(MTH also has one - scale - in their latest catalogue.)
The Bachmann (not WBB) Whitcomb is On30.
None of the above are related to the old Lionel "44" or its descendants and clones.
Thanks D500,
I assumed the WbB was a pw clone, so the Whitcomb seemed a reasonable alternate too. But something told me to poke around . I bet the name variances associated with WbB vs Bmnn fade unless Bmnn, wishes to keep Williams name for selling off its O interests in the future.
Ill take a closer peak at the GE 44t sometime soon. How old is this?
Just waiting for my pre orders to come through. A lot of Norfolk Southern:
Norfolk Southern Dash 8

30th Street,
After I pick up the logging Cars from Matt, it looks like I am going to concentrate on purchasing one of the new Legacy Crane Car that are about to come out. I want to definitely see some of the road names that will be available for sure.

The WBB 44 is not out yet; it (pre-production undecorated) can be seen here and there
on the Internet; some threads here on the Forum, etc.
I have one pre-ordered (Southern Rwy - they had a few). Unlike the MTH version, the
pilots DO NOT swing. I may yet order a MTH version, just because the die-cas body
appeals to me. Don't need either of them.
I'm surprised that you aren't familiar with either or both of the offerings; the WBB one
created quite a stir last year when shown, as many of us had been hoping for this for years.
The MTH was less splashy, as it came later and costs more. I'm sure that they are both
going to be quite nice.
It's kind of amusing that the very outfit (Lionel) that made the 44T idea famous, although
with completely the wrong loco (the PW "44" is, body-wise, pretty close to the GE 80-tonner, I believe), did not come out with the scale version - with Legacy. Funny.
D500, thank you again. I likely missed it thinking it was a PW re-pop, or a Whitcomb mix-up, just like this time!
I don't go to the Bmn site very often anymore since.. lets just say "a change in atmosphere" took place. I have stayed in touch with some members.
I have an anti-MTH bias I chose not to voice 99.9% of the time. Its not a sound, or sturdy argument, almost a mental block. I own one MTH caboose...no wait... its my brothers, I own none, run one, and run it only on occasion.
I do really have a weak spot for any centered cab
Most diesels aren't really even my thing!
But they are locomotives, I do own some, want some more too.
I guess its more accurate that they just don't top my list ......Yet!
Lionel Legacy Southern Pacific Cab Forward, Fantasy paint scheme
Got it from Nicholas Smith Trains delivered on 1/5/15; what a beauty!
Benchwork construction materials. I have a beginner 4x8 layout and considering reconfiguring to a 3x16 depending on available space
Williams by Bachmann F3 AA "Western Maryland Fireball" - from of all places Amazon.com. Bought it because the price dropped to $167.87 and the shipping is free. Shipping this set would be at least $50 from a regular dealer. I'm planning to strip it and try my hand at custom painting the Alaska F3-A #1516 pictured below.
Amazon is a strange place to shop for trains, I've been watching prices on these F3 sets since early December, most are priced too high - around $300. It's interesting to watch the prices go up and down, and they can change quickly. Generally the prices go up on the weekend and drop during the week. Popular roads like Santa Fe stay don't fluctuate as much. There were two of these in stock, and after I bought this one the price on the remaining one jumped up to $301.03. Sure hope real hobby shops don't adopt this "robo" pricing model.

I'm taking my daughter to the GTS show in Anaheim, CA on Sunday. I really don't have a specific list, but would like to find a clean KW or LW transformer. I'll be checking a lot of boxes under the tables for some project items and undiscovered "gems".
My daughter may have her own wish list so we'll see. If something is at a tempting price, well we have a little cash in the train budget so I hope we find some great deals!

What is the first new train of the New Year that you will buy??
I wasn't thinking about it in exactly those terms, but I just a few moments ago paid for my first trains of 2015. I bought a tinplate passenger car consist manufactured by ACE Trains. For those of you who are unfamiliar, ACE is a U.K.-based manufacturer of "modern tinplate". These are die-cast and tinplate locos/cars. I think they're stunning.
I don't own the entire consist yet, but Jim Kelly posted a YouTube video several years ago of a similar setup that I've never quite gotten out of my craw.
The first big piece (the coaches) was acquired today. I found them online and made an offer to a hobby shop in England and he accepted. I was even able to affirm that he's a good guy through an offline reference from a fellow forumite whom I'm sure many of you know. It's the first time I've paid for a train in Pounds...
Only 364 days left to buy trains in 2015...

beautiful engine and passenger cars. Where can this set be purchased in the states? Guess it only runs on three rail tin plate track?
Love those Euro models
Since I don’t have an RS-27 or PRR Diesel, Pennsylvania MTH 30-20272-1 is on the radar.
I need a lash up helper to support the NYC/ PC engines.
