I am close to finishing my layout so I wanted to run my engines to ensure that all of my loops work and all of my engines work. So far no new problems except when I pulled out a Lionel CBQ Mikado which has a label identifying it as a Legacy engine. However, there is no Run/Program switches that I can find. It does not respond to initial programing nor, so far, conventional operation. I probably purchased  it within the past 2 years ago. Unlike my other engines I can't find any manual nor labeled original box. I may have purchased it online. I can't recall. It is in great shape, paint is perfect.

Without the normal run/program switches I can't see that actually is a Legacy engine. I have looked at various Mikado manuals online and they all show the appropriate switches. Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,

Gary

You didn't even give us a road number or picture of the loco.

That said, are you sure it's legacy? http://www.lionel.com/products...-mikado-4978-2332060 Chicago, Burlington & Quincy LionChief Plus 2.0 Mikado #4978

Also, I swear recently I was looking at a recent Lionchief Plus 2.0 engine- but had a legacy sticker on the bottom. I don't remember the model, but I remember thinking this is going to mess someone up one day. Kinda like that PS3 sticker left on the fuel tank of some retooled MTH engines that Lionel produced.

This would have the switches inside the cab and very well hidden. https://www.lionelsupport.com/...202%20Mikado_web.pdf

Also, the trait of Steam Lionchief Plus series (to include Lionchief Plus 2.0) of locos- is that plastic electrical connection based drawbar plug system VS a true typical legacy IR based drawbar system with no "plug" or electrical contacts.

Further, the catch 22 is that Lionchief Plus 2.0 added TMCC- so the program/run switch, because they are using the exact same LCP2 control board as Legacy engines- however different TMCC only firmware. So they won't respond to Legacy formatted commands- including the set command when trying to set the address using a CAB2.

Without a doubt in my mind at this point- you have a similar mislabeled LC+2.0 engine sporting a sticker with Legacy on it.

Again, if you set your CAB2 for Legacy mode for this ID and tried to do anything, the engine would not respond because it's NOT actually Legacy. Your CAB2 would be sending legacy formatted commands, the engine saw the basic TMCC signal present so it boots up off and silent, but only understands TMCC formatted commands (part of the limited LC+ 2.0 feature set)- so even trying to set the ID had you found the  program/run switch. You would have to ensure the ID you are trying to use is setup for CAB or TMCC mode in a CAB2 to even be able to change the ID.

FWIW, related to this topic, one of the new Lionel 2232130 - LionChief+ 2.0 Pacific Steam Locomotive "Reading & Northern" #425 came into the shop today.

This is a Lionchief Plus 2.0 engine- however on the bottom and similar to this topic about the Mikado- the engine has a large Lionel Legacy sticker clearly visible on the bottom of the engine frame.

My concern is this can lead to confusion later on, either by the user or worse- second hand when these engines might get sold on the used market. Since just like this topic- a person might try to use Legacy format command settings when programming or attempting to run the engine because they see a Legacy sticker on it. The Lionchief 2.0 firmware will not accept Legacy format commands (only the previous TMCC format).

Again just sharing info so that when/if someone says it won't program or run under Legacy.
