Thanks Dave, Casey LV, Spence, Brian, nyclines, Mike R, Eliot, and Alex for the kind words.

Mike R, the 4 chuffs are from a reed switch mounted on the tender wheel with two magnets.

Eliot, I will bring him over, after the winter. He won't step out of the house right now with this cold weather. lol

Alex, I will let him know that you and Judy said Happy Birthday.

Thanks,

Alex

As John Korling said, the conventional guys must be up in arms  and I did feel kind of funny to do this . But Being my dad is  80 years old now, I figured I should give him what he wants.

The collector in me says that your dad's engine and tender were much too nice to modify and repaint. However that is what your dad desired. I think it is great that you were able to give him what he wanted. IMHO, that is what is important.

You did a fantastic job, and I am sure that your dad is delighted with the results.

Our club just received a donation of two 224e's from the estate of a gentleman that received them from Santa on Christmas 1938. It was his desire that his trains be run and displayed for the public. We had both engines serviced and repaired. They ran beautifully despite their age.

Really neat to see this engine running under command control. I'm sure you dad must be thrilled. You did a wonderful job.

Alex,

Happy birthday to both you and your dad! You are good son for all the great work you did on your father's engine.

Some of the guys on the forum want to adopt you. Just wanted to let you know that I have already begun legal proceeding in the Supreme Court, Richmond County (Staten Island) to adopt you legally as my brother (being a lawyer has its benefits). This has never been attempted before, but with your train repair/train upgrade skills, it was worth my time to do this. You will be getting a copy of the court's order in the mail in a few days. It will be nice to have a brother who appreciates trains and can fix mine.

If you don't want to be my brother, I will sue you, so you have no choice

Your new brother,

Erol
