I ran across an interesting factory defect today, caught me by surprise! A gold star to the first one that can tell me what is wrong with the top board!

The chip holder is upside down.
Is the big electrolytic on the left backwards? If they are the same cap, the writing is not positioned the same.

hello guys and gals and gunrunnerjohn
the only thing I see wrong with the boards are the 2 RED clips about inch long with 2 wires (top board, the one that says "cab forward" chip) as it doesn't look like it belongs there. When I was servicing my railking NW-2 with PS-1 and it doesn't have those red clips. Those boards look like PS-1's

Sockets is 180 degrees out for the chip.
I agree with MartyE.
Keith beat us both.
Yes he did. Good catch Keith.
I just did a reset on a friends PS-1 about a week ago with the MTH reset chip. So that was the first thing I looked at. BUT I have only looked at a few of these boards and would not known which was the right way if I was looking at just one board.
Gunrunner did the upside down board work??
That's the problem. I was floored when I saw it. Of course, I first put a chip in the "right" way and that didn't go well! Then I looked at the other board and realized what the issue was.

If you put the chip in backwards like you see in the picture it works. It had a different chip and didn't work, but the Cab Forward chip works fine for some reason. Another chip, the T1 Duplex gave me three clanks, and the reset chip didn't seem to help that one. The PS/1 boards are a lot of fun.
John, do I detect a hint of sarcasm is your font?
Sarcasm? Me? Never!
