I am still using the original unit I purchased the first month the system came out. I would like to move up to a current unit. What version are we on and are the bugs worked out. I have been out of the loop for several years.

The latest DCS version is 4.30 and the latest hardware are the kits with the Rev. L.
I would strongly suggest that you purchase only a DCS kit (or separete-sale TIU) that has a Rev. L included. The Rev. l, in its current implementation, is far superior to any previous TIU.
Further, it would be wise to purchase only a new set (or TIU) and only through an MTH-authorized dealer.
Barry,
What is an upgrade kit for the DCS unit? I too have an older DCS TIU and base, I think my version is around 2.3 or something like that. I purchased it almost 8 years ago from Ready To Roll in Miami FL along with my Reading T-1 steam engine with PS-2.
I just bought a PS-3 diesel engine about a year ago and don't want to hurt the circuit board by having too old a TIU.

Lee,

I have no idea, since there is no such thing. I never mentioned any such "upgrade kit for the DCS unit".
A "DCS kit" is a DCS Remote plus TIU, purchased as one product.
Barry,
Poster was probably meaning upgrade software, though wonder if 4.3 works with original earliest first generation TIU and remote (I am guessing yes, since TIU upgrades seem to be related to preventing hardware failures from spikes, errant voltages, making beefier current handling, "bulletproofing TIU outputs" etc.)

Your guess would be correct, The every earlier TIU and remote can, indeed, run the very latest TIU and remote software.

I guess it was a little typo on my part or mis-understanding about the word kit.
So if I wanted to have the TIU base updated I could do that or buy the latest TIU & remote, correct?
Basically I am looking to run a PS-3 engine with the TIU and remote I have.
FYI, I am still setting up my new layout as moved about 2 months ago to a newer house.

Yes, as long as you understand that any upgrades are software only, not hardware.
Just having an older TIU would not necessarily hurt a PS3 board, would it?

No, it should not.
