It's funny to me how topics disappear as we all move on to the next big thing... I didn't read much when it came out, so curious what the opinions were. Besides that, I'm considering one.
Thanks!

I love mine and did review on my YouTube channel.
Note that when you watch Marty's video you'll see that some of them came with issues, including his first. Since now there's no warranty, you'll want to insure that yours does not have the problems described!

Hmmm... Seller has it NIB still sealed.

My point exactly!
Mine had a noisy rear smoke unit, other than that its been fine, just make sure trucks are screwed on 1st. Oh and they goofed up the emergency light.
Its mixed in with the mars light, u have to turn the mars light off to really see the flashing red
A drop off oil on the fan motor if you open up the smoke unit to access the fan.

I did, but that's not always the cure. As seen by @gunrunnerjohn on my L1 mikado

I've always felt if you're going in, replace the fan motor...
I was running mine a week ago and it also has a noisy rear smoke unit. Other than that it is a great engine.

Shouldn't they be noisy? They were nick-named "Big Blows" for their noise level. My brother in law says you could hear them for miles coming into Ogden when they were in service.

I don’t like buying any modern trains NIB. Prefer to get something used but taken care of. Some people think mint/sealed means it will be pristine and work perfectly but you never know what kind of nasty problems could be hiding in that sealed shipping carton

100% agree. I have bought off the auction site and always go for the units that are used but like new. I want to see actual pictures of what I am buying not "samples". If they include a video even better. Not so much concern about rolling stock and such but engines, definitely prefer used but like new.

I love mine, and I luckily had zero issues. It is a beast! All diecast. Sounds are great too!
Unfortunately, NIB does not mean problem free. So, you just buy it at a good price and deal with anything that crops up. That is pretty much what we do anymore with stuff from Lionel.

I think that's true for all secondary market purchases from any manufacturer.
If it’s a good price I’d say go for it I had an issue with mine within the first 30min of run time so definitely beware
they are awesome locomotives
Thanks for all the info. IMHO for the cost of these the warranty "should" be transferrable.
I've decided on something else...
I stuck with my TMCC Veranda model. I also bought the oddball motherboard, just in case...
I bought the #69 Veranda and it's perfect. I thought I had issues with the smoke units but that's a long story so I tried to take the body off to see if I had overflowed the too small (in my opinion) smoke receptacles but I was unable to turn the body screws. It turned out I just was not putting enough fluid in. The thing burns the smoke fluid so quickly, like most Lionel locomotives, that it is ridiculous. You are always stopping to add fluid which subtracts from the enjoyment. The receptacles need to have much larger capacity so they last longer. Another thing is I would like to see an indicator of how much fluid is in there and how much you can put in. I should just run with smoke turned off but I an hooked on smoke.
I absolutely love mine! Like Sean menioned it's an absolute beast! Similar to the Big Boy this locomotive will grab everyone's attention. Lionel put a SuperBass in the tender and makes the locomotive sound incredible!
I love mine, it is a beast like everyone says. The sounds are awesome.
