Of all the engines I have, the Lionel 44 ton red 627 switcher is one of them.
Nothing special, looks different from most and runs okay. I use it at Christmas to pull my Christmas train because it is red. No big deal and I have had it for over 20 years.

Obviously that thing is NOT a "scale" 44 ton model that has been discussed recently!
Because all the recent posts are about the new, scale sized 44 tonner from MTH, not the old Lionel 44 mega-tonner.

The SCALE 44tonner is all the buzz as it's the latest new loco from MTH. Any loco new in o gauge gets the buzz. The SCALE 44 ton loco has been asked for five +years now and has finally arrived.
A scale 3-rail GE 44-tonner has been the Holy Grail of O gauge locomotives. They've been done in limited runs in Brass by Rich Yoder Models (2 and 3-rail) and by Sunset (2-rail). Williams did a good job with theirs, but the recently-released MTH version has been the most anticipated as it is command-control equipped.
MTH has produced an absolute beautiful rendition of the GE 44 Ton locomotive with DCS yet! It reminded me of one that ran on your local Southern rail branch when I was in my youth. I purchased one in the Southern rail livery of course and it is on display on my layout. The locomotive run great with no problems pulling six cars. The sound system is fabulous on par with Lionel locomotive sounds. Love that little engine.
There is no comparison between the two loco's the one in the picture is an oversized post war engine good for running in conventional mode.
