I have my 2-8-4 and 4-8-2 running at the club today and the smoke output was pretty crappy. I turned the sounds off to listen if the fan works, and it works. Do you think the wick needs to be replaced in both units or is their something else wrong with it? The 4-8-2 won't smoke but the 2-8-4 smokes but it doesn't get going until you blow some air into the stack several times.

Thanks

If one isn't smoking at all, I suspect it may be other than the wick.  Even with the wick burnt to a crisp, an MTH locomotive will still smoke, just not very well.

If the other one has good smoke after blowing in the stack, you may just be developing a bubble that blocks the airflow.  Sometimes, the wick being positioned wrong can exacerbate this condition.

the wick looks charred and should be replaced, also while your in there I would check the resistance and make sure the ohms are correct! also check the fan motor over make sure it runs smoothly and with no bearing noise for lack of oil, or just worn out! the wick material is very cheap well worth the cost to replace so it will smoke great
