Eddie G is long gone from the forum.
I prefer to go to the York Meet and not just talk about it.

Eddie broke the rules and paid the price. I won't be at April but hope to go in Oct.

Yep! The very best way to experience it is by being there. Some of my buddies over in PA talked me into going to the April meet with them (with one of them driving and an extra seat available), so at this time I am planning to go over with them on Thursday morning and returning home on Friday.
There are usually 10 plus members of TCA Nor-Cal (SF Bay Area) who go to each York meet. I don't know anyone who is going in April. I think that is going to take some time before people are comfortable traveling again. We are just beginning to go to restaurants, movie theaters, and local train shows. NH Joe
Flying doesn’t bother me. It’s going through airports that drives me nuts. But after I get back from Hawaii next weekend, then drive to Phoenix to take Mom, my son and grandson to the Diamondbacks Opening Day and drive back home, I’ll be getting ready for York!!
I’ll be arriving solo as Lynley has work obligations to tend to. So I’ll be running, Uhhmm, strolling wild through the aisles!!
Well, I sorta miss all the OGR pre-York whining and moaning.
Maybe the absence of a few York meets made people appreciate the meet for what it is. (No I don't really believe that, but just hoping).
If I get to go it will be a last minute decision. If I can't go, it will be the first York I've missed in 6 months.
Why whine and moan about the best O gauge show around?
I’ve only been going for a few years (and not since the pandemic) but it’s a lot of fun if you like trains!
I only live less then an hour away so I will be there on Thursday and Friday. Still thee best show around!!!!
Complaining is much easier when one can hide behind a screen unshaven in their PJ's.
I vote for all complaints to be by video only. 
I'd hate to think the price of gas and inflation in general would dissuade any of us from attending..spending for most of us has its limits...

So even if gas is double and it costs me $400, that's not going to stop me. IMO, if someone is using an excuse like gas prices, then they weren't going anyway.

Well, if the price difference for gas for a 200 mile round trip stopped me from going to York, I'd be in pretty desperate straits! Sure I'm not happy that gas is much more expensive, but I can either whine about it or live with it. I'm pretty sure I don't have any oil wells in my back yard to supplement the nation's oil supply, so I sure can't do anything about it. 
Gas and inflation in general...happy neither of you are effected by either...wondering why my business volume has dropped off on Main Street over the past couple of months? Maybe it's just the weather?

I'm going Friday. Only personal days I've used from work this year were for Fall and now Spring York.
Still a little early for me to put up the Thursday AM pre- meet breakfast thread.....
However, I am getting excited.
For those who stay over Friday evening......a group of us go to the Olive Garden for dinner for a "York thus far" debriefing.....

Who said we weren't affected? Just because something that's totally out of my control is happening, I'm not going to stop living! I don't like it, but there's a new rule in force nowadays. I don't have to like it, I just have to live with it, and that's what I'm choosing to do.

I'll burn about 40 gallons to/from/at York (550 miles each way + side trips). To put it into perspective, compared to last fall, the difference amounts to about the cost of a box car. Until I figure out how to take it with me, I'm not going to allow the cost of a box car to spoil my fun.
Despite the high cost of living, living remains popular.

Only train people are invited. We check your certifications at the door.
Table is already reserved. If you’d like to join us we usually assemble around 7pm.

My fellow VN vet can talk me into just about anything. And we most definitely WILL have fun!
It's a matter of priorities and resources. If you have resources (money, time, desire, wife's permission, etc) then it's just a matter of priorities (how bad you want to go, is something else more important)
I like going and try to always reserve vacation and money. The wife has always been understanding. But I always prepare for the trip to be canceled (work, covid, kid sick, etc)
For people near York with other options for train shows, the higher price of gas may cause them to forego a York show. For me it's York or nothing.

Just a question......how much a gallon are you guys paying for gas there at the moment???
Here in the "land down under{ (Australia) we are paying $8.80 (Aus) for a gallon of fuel (just over 4ltrs) which equates to around $6.60 US a gallon. Is that good or bad compared to you guys??
My wife and I are planning to visit the US again next year (2023), and I am trying to organize it to be at York for the fall meeting. Fingers crossed and Covid and international travel permitting!!!

I am attending York for the first time this year… not sure what to expect other than the obvious. I do have a few standard gauge goodies on my wish list, but other than that it’s an excuse to go for a long spring drive (including zipping around some curvy PA side roads), stay at a 1700’s B&B, and meet some of the SGMA members at breakfast. I will probably make a side trip after to the Toy train museum, which I have not been to in over 30 years. Is there anything else I should consider?

In PA we are averaging $4.32 a gallon. I paid $4.29 this morning.
Hi Kennith, I would recommend the PRR museum, Strasburg railroad and the Choo Choo barn. You will not be disappointed.

Exactly what my wife and I will be doing Monday-Tuesday of York week, along with visiting the TCA National Toy Train Museum and the Strasburg Train Shop.

I suspect a lot of us from the northern climates -- it's up to 28 degrees here right now-- Welcome Spring! - are at Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, or somewhere in Florida, etc.
Perhaps there is less model train related activity during those typical school "Spring Breaks". Obviously, this a good time to think about York, and those beautiful spring vistas throughout most of the truly gorgeous state of Pennsylvania...
$3.91 Sunday in Wilmington DE at off brand stations. They have 4 islands with 16 pumps and cars waiting at each pump.
