I'm at the Wyndham Garden York, only a mile or so from the Fairgrounds. First stay but been told good things.
Really Mark I don't know cause I am on the west side of the world! But if its at the fairgrounds heck take a tent and stay there! LOL
I stay at Country inns and suites by Carlson. Very nice. about 5 - 7 miles from fair grounds. I go in april only thou.
Booking a room this close to the event date use to be impossible within the city. Has that changed?
You will get many "best" suggestions. One thing I will say, finding motel rooms in York is easier than it was years ago...even "last minute" ones. My priority has been to find a place very near to the fairgrounds. Since I could drive home in less that 2 hours, why pay for a room that takes a 45 minute drive to get there? I also want a clean room that is no higher than $100./night. However, if my wife was going with me, we would be at $150. plus most likely. In fact, we went to a wedding in York last week, and that is what we paid.
Heritage Hills, while not inexpensive, is in a nice option offering a golf option for those that are interested.
Many less expensive alternatives exist but for us, York trains is a nice to do but not the driving factor in York
Enjoy the experience.
The Wyndham Garden I think is the best hotel. less than a mile from the fairgounds, There is an outdoor and indoor show there Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. There is an indoor pool and work out room, also a restaurant & bar. Just my opinion....
I have stay at the Courtyard on the Northeast side (Lionel reps stay there) but I prefer the Wyndham gardens. First the parking lot has bandit shows before York starts and its a short drive to the fairgrounds I found some good deals at their shows. The courtyard is nice but it can be a 20 min ride to the fairgrounds. Both are over a 100 a night but if your walking all day you will want something nice. I started by staying at the courtyard but now it's the Wyndham for me.
Is this maybe a hint that menards maybe looking at coming to York sometime soon?
The Four Seasons by Sheraton is not too far either and have been pleased with that location. Trainworld I have seen stay there for several shows.
The Laquinta is really nice. It's in the same complex as the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant. The only downside is that as of this October it's a 3 night minimum stay. It's newer hotel and a bit cheaper then the other top flight hotels (at least as recently as April) but if you are staying 3 nights as a dealer it may be worth looking into. I've stayed in the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and the Laquinta was just as good in my opinion.

If you're bringing product to sell and debut- ...........My house!
I agree, the Laquinta's are nice. I stayed at one at Zion National Park in May this year.
Orange Hall
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SELL AT YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Best" is subjective. What amenities do you want? Are you in a loyalty program? How far are you willing to drive? Are you going to leave items in your car in the motel parking lot overnight?
Days Inn (former Billy Budd) treats Yorkies very well and is relatively reasonably priced with a good breakfast. I use loyalty points and it makes the Wyndham Garden very attractive. If a person doesn't mind a 35-minute drive, there are some very inexpensive places in Carlisle.
If the budget covers $150 per night, there are a lot of good choices.
I would avoid the Super 8 on US 30 - it gets cheaper each year; it was rather scary the last time I stayed there about 4 years ago, and it doesn't look like it's gotten any better. (And my standards and expectations are fairly low.)
One other piece of advice - make cancellable reservations now, but check back a couple of days before the meet - you might be able to score a bargain.
Could this be a dry run to see how things are at York? Maybe a first run with items come April
If you have a camper or RV, staying right on the fairgrounds is another option (and the least expensive).

Hee,
Mark, if you do get to go someday to York wait until you see some of the prices on your stuff that's for sale.

I would go if Menards was picking up the air and stay! LOL
I'd love to see Menard's at York. Why, you may ask, considering I've been rather critical of their products?
Just to see the look on the faces of MTH, Lionel, Atlas, etc when their booth is swamped.
Oh yea.....I REALLY want to see the look on the guy's face that was selling Menard's cars at $60 - $80 a pop last year. Didn't look like he sold a thing!
The Hilton in Harrisburg.
I prefer to stay on the fairgrounds. But if you drove a truck to York, the wyndham would make more sense. Park it on the side closest to walmart and have your own train show mon-wed. Then go to the fairgrounds and sell whats left if anything.
I got your reply, but seriously, you could bring a small Ryder type moving truck (the kind that goes up over the drivers cab) full of what you think would sell. Sell to and satisfy as many buyers as possible on mon and tuesday at the wyndham show. That would reduce the demand and crowd level for you at the fairgrounds to a manageable level. Tuesday day call back home with a list of what more to bring to york. That truck can leave wed morning and have a day and a half to get to york fairgrounds. They can resupply your main truck and be a second warehouse for the show. That truck could leave Saturday morning to take back home the 3.5 items that aren't selling well.
You can raise the prices 1.00 to 3.00 per car to offset some of the expenses. You would still be more than 50-80% cheaper than your competition. Many people who dont have access to a menards would probably gladly pay the extra $ to have the car in hand. I can easily buy 3-4 of your cars for the price of some other brand cars.
Plus you would have first hand, face to face exposure to a large segment of the hobby that has 20x deeper pockets than other train shows. This would allow you marketing input and showcase your product line. Possibly collect email addresses for future sale notifications.
The best place to stay is with Bambi & Crystal
Half the replies have nothing to do will, where to stay.
Hi Eddie G., For a decade, twice a year, I have stayed, for the York Meet in York, at the following very pleasant motel, in Lancaster, a 30min. drive, due east, along Rt.30, from York:
Holiday Inn Express , at Rockvale-Lancaster Outlets
24 South Willowdale Drive
Lancaster, PA 17602
phone: (717) 293-9500
I like it very much and would not stay anywhere else.

Hi Everyone,
Have any of you stayed at the York Hotel Royale? Someone told me that it was located at 334 Carlisle Avenue?
Have a great evening!

That was probably the guy you asked to fetch a left-handed screw driver.
Anyone staying overnight at 334 Carlisle Ave was in a trailer or a tent.
