I am seeking to sell off a large part of my 3-rail trains, which is something new to me. The higher priced items I imagine would best be sold online. I know OGR has a sale/trade forum, but chances are I will need to target a larger customer base along with the forum. It wouldn't be worth selling lower cost items such as used Williams engines and various rolling stock online due to shipping costs. I am from the New Stanton PA area. Are there any venues such as fire halls, train shows etc. within a hundred miles from me that anyone can suggest? I am guessing you pay per table? I've seen these events advertise (i.e. Adamsburg) but am unsure of the frequency or time of year.

Thanks...Rich

Greenberg Train Show Monroeville July 22-23 2017 10am to 4pm. Between now and then, I would list your items here on the forum. I would do it, listing all your items manufactured by one manufacture. Such as Lionel, MTH, Williams and etc. If you have a large amount to sell, break it down into engines, cars and accessories. I would also call Neely's Trains in Altoona Phone: (814) 942-2652 Have him give you a price for everything.

Rich,

In addition to the Greenberg show in July, there is a show near Elizabeth, PA (on Rt. 48 around 20 miles from New Stanton) put on by the Central VFD coming up in September (it is not on their calendar yet, so you would have to call them about getting a table), and if you are a TCA member, there is a Fort Pitt meet coming up in September as well (a little longer drive).  From what I understand, Adamsburg is no longer doing train shows.

If you would like to start moving stuff sooner, compile a list of what you are looking to sell with prices and email it to me and I can print it and show it to the rest of the Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers at one of our meetings, or if you would like, you could come to one of our meetings and bring the list and hang out for an evening (ever considered joining a modular club? ).  I live in North Huntingdon, so I could act as a go-between if anyone in the club is interested in anything.

A lot of great responses, thanks so much guys! Andy; I have everything on an Excel spreadsheet. I will edit it to provide just the pertinent information and forward it to you. It may take a month to determine what rolling stock boxes I have in my attic crawl space (Won't be easy). I've been monitoring the "bay" for pricing ideas. Amazed that items get a significant amount of "watchers" but don't seem to sell. The watchers must be folks doing the same as me LOL!

And in addition to the TCA Ft. Pitt Division meets that Andy mentioned, the TCA National Convention is in Pittsburgh later this month.  They may still have tables available but you have to be a member to sell.  You can join on-line.

I suspect you are right.  When I "watch" stuff, it is usually for one of 3 reasons -- to get an idea of current pricing(like you), as a reminder on something I want to bid on at the last minute (to avoid bidding wars), or to keep an eye on something that is currently over-priced but may get re-listed at a lower (more reasonable) price when it doesn't sell.
