Gosh after all these years I'm finally going to attend my 1st. York.  I only live down the road a piece in Baltimore but my vision isn't the best for night driving.  That being said I'd appreciate a few recommendations for lodging for a few nights.  Creature comforts are pretty important to me so I don't mind paying for them.  Any help would be certainly appreciated.  Thanks guys.  BTW something very close would be nice.

I think he wants to book ahead, that's why he wants recommendations We have been shopping around for a room as well. We are flying into Baltimore and looks like we'll spend around $150 a night total in York. So far it's the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Sweets North NE Market... we haven't booked yet cuz we are still shopping around. 2 months ago that same room was about $100 total per night..

I stay in dumps all the time working for the railroad, so I don't mind paying for a nice room.

You might want to try the Wingate.  Quite close to the fairgrounds and convenient.  Very nice.

Our OGR crew stayed there a couple of times or so.  If you're looking for something along the "upscale" line, that would be my recommendation for a place that's just a fairly short distance from the fairgrounds.  Our team now stays back at the Best Western, which is adjacent to the Friday's restaurant where we hold the "Thursdays at Fridays" event.  Just a matter of convenience.

I booked my hotel a last week and the only place that could accomodate me from Wednesday night to Saturday was Homewood Suites in Harrisburg, which is about a 30 minute ride from York.  I'm arriving on Wednesday because I'm leaving right from work and driving the 2 1/2 hours there.  This is my first York as well and I expected to have the hotels almost full by now.

I stayed at the holiday inn last time. It was nice/convenient enough that I rebooked it for the fall on the hotel wifi before I left.

It was clean, quiet and close to the fairgrounds. I dont think breakfast was included, but I had 'Round the Clock on my mind anyways.

I've also stayed at the sheraton four points behind the Round the Clock diner. It was ok, but not great.

DO NOT stay at the Motel 6. Most disgusting place I ever stayed! Thought I would save a few bucks and have extra spending money. Big mistake!

Smelled terrible, stains all over the walls. When I was leaving in the morning the lobby was full of all those smelly guys that fart all over the isles and never leave their basement to shower. I guess they didn't notice the smell.

Thanks for all the help guys.  I just booked 2 nights at the Holiday Inn on Rt 74 & 30.  It's close to the fairgrounds, has a hot/cold breakfast bar,  WiFi, and a good rate with my senior discount.  The room is a SMOKING room with 2 double beds so if anyone wants to share a room and split the expenses shot me an email.  It's in my profile.

MartyE,I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the fairgrounds. It was fine, but I was put into a room with NO windows...which was a first for me. I usually stay at the Rodeway Inn or the Super8. Clean, cheap, and less than 2 miles from the fairgrounds. Many on this forum are "too good" for places like these. I'd rather spend the $60. I save at the train meet.

Slight change in plans.  Just found out that this Holiday Inn doesn't have an elevator and the smoking rooms are on the upper floors.  I don't do steps very well so I had the room changed to a non-smoking room on the ground level.  Anyway the offer still stands if someone wants to share a room.

Indeed, that traditionally has been the case, and that is where our OGR crew has stayed most of the time in recent years (primarily due to it being adjacent to Friday's Restaurant).

HOWEVER, both yesterday and the day before, Don called to confirm our reservations and they never called back.  No wonder, because they had the arrangements royally messed up, as he learned this afternoon.  After some intense searching, etc., and the OGR team is now back at the Wingate (a very nice place anyhow).  This is the third time the Best Western--with changed management and staffing in recent years--has messed things up big-time, so they have been crossed off our list of "recommended lodgings."

A word to the wise:  If you have a reservation there, be SURE to re-confirm before you start out on your trip!

Note to Redjimmy:  Yes, they do have a continental breakfast bar at the Best Western.

Since I'm attending the meet by myself for Thursday and Friday only I couldn't help but go with the cheap options close to the show. Just reserved a king bed non-smoking room at the Rodeway Inn for 90 bucks. They have free internet which is a big plus but otherwise I'm easy, as long as the shower works and the bed is clean for just one night I'm happy. Like someone else said, I'd rather spend the money saved at the show.

(If anyone else wants to go this route, the website said there was only 1 king bed non-smoking room left after I reserved mine).
