Which Legacy Steam Loco to buy

I am not sure this is the right place to start this but here goes.

I have not long gotten in to this great hobby, I have been buying the Lionel Legacy diesel engines which run and sound great.

But now I want to get a nice, detailed, reliable Lionel Legacy Steam engine. One from a recent catalog that people still have on the shelf, I will spend around 1K.

features I would like include the timed chuff and the steam whistle effect, Union Pacific , Santa Fe or a Canadian rail road would be a plus.

Which ones would you recommend...turn radius is not a worry.

all new legacy steam engines have timed 4 chuff's per revaluations.

If you can find one of the santa fe northerns 6-11332 or 6-11333. they have the steam whistle. imo very nice, I have both.

I would suggest whatever appeals to you but make sure it has cruise control. At least for me the cruise is a big plus. All IMO; Don

All Legacy locomotives have cruise control in the form of Odyssey II speed control.

the latest legacy Penn K4 is great engine with super smoking whistle, more so than the santa fe. Also is a good looking and running engine and a good puller for a smaller engine. I got mine on ebay for 645.00 brand new.

The SF FEF 3751 and 3759 are nice engines. They are capable of running 042 radius curves, though they are recommended for bigger.

The Legacy EM-1 is also a big beautiful engine. Strictly 072 or bigger.

All the above have synchronized 4 chuff smoke, and they make decent smoke volumes.

They all have whistle smoke as well.

I would suggest the Legacy Lionmaster Big Boy. Super loco, I have run the heck out of mine.

Another that I thought was very good is the UP FEF 844. A pal of mine has that one

I have the black legacy version and it is one of my favorite engines, great sound, runs great, whistle smoke and it looks great.

If you have a chance to get one, do it. You won't be disappointed .
