I know the white body mold release can be removed with heat. But, there is white buildup on the truck sides and coupler on postwar rolling stock. There is also a mild rust on the wheels and the truck frame where it connects the side truck pieces...

looking for any ideas on cleaning...   I've done some of these before...but, I'm looking for a couple of ideas on cleaning differently..

If the white is corrosion in your case, which it has been in mine, I have sometimes wire wheeled it off, and sometimes bead blasted it off.  for the sheet metal part of the trucks, same thing, bead blast, wire wheel, and I've also used evaporust, and good old chemical electrolosis to remove rust.  Then you have to decide how to reproduce the chemical blackening.  I've also just painted the parts black in the past and many others do that as well.  It's all a personal preference, and maybe reflective of the tools and stuff you have at your disposal.  They all work pretty good  for me.100_1138100_1139100_1144
