I know the white body mold release can be removed with heat. But, there is white buildup on the truck sides and coupler on postwar rolling stock. There is also a mild rust on the wheels and the truck frame where it connects the side truck pieces...
looking for any ideas on cleaning... I've done some of these before...but, I'm looking for a couple of ideas on cleaning differently..

I encountered that white stain on the trucks of a used MPC locomotive bought on eBay, and efforts to rectify the issue have been fruitless. Concluded the only solution is black paint.

In the past I have used ArmorAll and a tooth brush to remove the white residue on trucks.
If the white is corrosion in your case, which it has been in mine, I have sometimes wire wheeled it off, and sometimes bead blasted it off. for the sheet metal part of the trucks, same thing, bead blast, wire wheel, and I've also used evaporust, and good old chemical electrolosis to remove rust. Then you have to decide how to reproduce the chemical blackening. I've also just painted the parts black in the past and many others do that as well. It's all a personal preference, and maybe reflective of the tools and stuff you have at your disposal. They all work pretty good for me.
I use white vinegar and water mixed 25%/75% to get rid of the white stuff. Vinegar will also remove rust but I like evaporust now. You can buy "Blackn'it" to redo the trucks or spray them flat black and lightly go over it with a brass brush. Looks just like post war.
