Hi Guys & Gals

I am thinking of making a layout on 4x8 table & putting it outside in my back yard .  While my maple tree provides shade , some sun comes in the back yard.

The table would get primed & painted !  The table would have 4' legs so i could mow grass under it .    i would  leave track on table screwed in  !  Transformer & trains would come in every nite/day when not in use!  I might build a sloped roof  & sides to protect trains from sudden down pours .

I would run a Lion  Chief  engine on it !

What are your opinions on this ?

Tinned or plated track will rust out quickly in damp or salty air.

Atlas nickle silver track with uv safe ties is the best choice.

Stainless Steel track would also work.

Track still has to be cleaned more often as well.

G gauge outdoor modelers often use On-Board Batteries or Live Steam Locos to avoid track cleaning and electrical problems.

Gargraves SS track with plastic ties should hold up in the conditions you described.

I too like the Gargraves stainless steel track, however I don't like the Gargraves switches, I am using Ross switches now. Gargraves curves are slightly larger then Ross curves; Ross 042 is closer to 042 then Gargraves 042 which closer to 043.
