I am new to trains and have set up an around the ceiling layout in a 12 by 12 bedroom.  I used MTH SCALETRAX with O72 curves, and a  DCS EXPLORER powered by a Z-1000 transformer.  The track is wired with 6 drops using 14 gauge bus wire to a MTH terminal block

I am currently running a MTH 30-1650-1 Southern Pacific freight set with the Cab Forward and I am very pleased with the operations.

I would like to purchase a MTH PS2 ABA set that has both A units powered but first I need to know if the DCS EXPLORER will work as is or do I need a TIU and WIU to build a lash up with the ABA?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I THINK both engines in those PS2 ABA sets are controlled by one PS2 board, so there is no lashup involved.  Are there wires between each unit.  If so the trailing A unit has a slave board in it that is driven by the board in the lead A unit, so it is basically one engine.

If there are no wires between the units, then the training A unit is a stand alone PS2 engine and you will need to lash them up.
