no u need the 2.5 farad 5 volt one here Is the web sight where techs purchase them. you have to be careful as some of the cheap ones can blow your ps 2 board if they fail!

I prefer battery"s they last at least usually 10 years or more!

batteries are much cheaper then ps 2 boards even if you can still find one!

1.5F seems to work fine for me.

If you remember the old way of building these, they used two 3.3F 2.7V caps in series.  That yields 1.65F of capacitance, and those worked just dandy.  Anything from 1.5F to 2.5F should be fine.  I doubt I'd go above 2.5F, simply because I'd start to be concerned about the charging time and the extended load on the charging circuit.

The Farad is charge capacity.  I used the 2.5 instead of 1.5 because of the higher capacity to maintain voltage.  The issue is the higher in capacitance you go, the longer to charge.  You also need to watch the resistance you want a small resistance value, not large.

John the issue is not the zero, rather the obsolete line on the main page  G

Virtually all of the twin round caps in the heatshrink have a low enough ESR for the task, it's the coin batteries that are not suitable.  That being said, one of the big issues with eBay is most of the caps don't specify the ESR, so you just have to know what you're looking for.  If you want a bunch of them, I recommend buying one or two and testing them before you commit to a large buy.

George, the obsolete line is bad, but the zero means you can't buy them no matter if they weren't obsolete.

Not true, you can buy, they will just be on back order.  Obsolete is far worse.
