Williams GG-1: Can the E-Unit Be Locked?

Not that I am aware of.  If the power is cut off, there is a seven second wait to start it back up forward again.  Otherwise, it goes through the cycle that requires you to use direction button to change.  Keep it off for seven seconds.

Older Williams engines just had a bridge rectifier and no electronics. This gave them on direction operation. If you do this, be sure to use a bridge rectifier with proper voltage and current ratings. Also try and heat sink the bridge to the metal chassis.

If this is a new GG-1, with the 6-amp reverse unit, these are the instructions for adding a reverse unit lock switch. Note that making this modification voids the warranty if the unit is still under warranty.

There are also instructions for modifying the reverse unit to start in neutral, rather than forward. Again, this modification voids the warranty.

Just what the doctor ordered!  And since this is a used loco, no worries about voiding any pesky warranties...  ^.^

There is a modification that can be done to the circuit board, it may even be mentioned over on the Williams by Bachmann forum or under frequently asked questions.

I have installed a 6 amp 50 volt bridge rectifier in my older Williams F-7's and they run a little faster as the circuit board seems to draw some power when hooked up to control the motors. It is very easy, just hook up the two motor wires to the rectifier(make sure it is the correct side on the rectifier first)and the power from track to the other two pins or whatever on the rectifier. If it runs the wrong direction simply switch wires coming off the rectifier to the motors.
