I tried to revive this topic,  https://ogrforum.com/t...a-scale-williams-gg1 I guess it is too old. I have a few questions.

1) Gunrunner John, did you ever do yours? How did it go?

2) Marty Fitzsimmons, you have done a few. Thanks for the tach bracket tip.

3) The couplers are a little shorter, on the upgrade. Can I use them, or should I stay conventional?

4) One leg of track power is routed: Truck>Headlamp> Bracket on motor mount>Board. Do I need the bracket connection? I don't remember needing it on my other upgrade (2 years ago), and I don't see anything in the upgrade and don't understand a need. It would be nice to get rid of this as t cramps my chosen board space. I have a plan, if it needs to stay.

5) Are there brighter bulbs I could wire to take advantage of the existing markers. I could cover the area to isolate them from the headlights.

If you don't use the track power lights on the Williams, you need to break the ground connection.  MTH lights have no connection to track power like Lionel does.

As far as shorter couplers, you need to see how it works with the cars you will pull and the curves you will use.  Might have issues with small radius curves where the car and engine can touch.  G

Marty, I ended up buying the Lionel JLC GG-1 for my Congressional passenger train, so the Williams still sits in the box.

FWIW, I did convert one of these to TMCC, no special issues in the conversion.  I used standard Lionel couplers and it has no problems pulling cars around O42 curves.

For markers and headlights in the Williams stuff, I replace everything with LED's.  I put individual LED's for each marker and one directly in the headlight.  This would apply to a DCS or TMCC conversion.  Here's an example of the headlights and markers in one end of the TMCC conversion.  I use heatshrink to attach the 2mm LED to the marker shaft and hot glue to keep the headlight LED in place.
