I have an MTH PS1 diesel and I'd like to transplant the PS1 sounds into a Williams diesel. The only PS1 functionality I'm interested in are the sound. No smoke, no coil couplers, etc. Just the sounds.

Is it as simple as swapping the Williams and PS1 sound cards & speakers?

Or, is the PS1 stuff integrated into their E-unit? Any other factors?

John is correct on the motor control.  I have many PS-1 sets from upgrades and have a friend who has me put them in his williams engines.  The PS-1 is an easy swap.  Control your motors with it and you will have the sounds.  Just install the boards, speaker, battery and volume pot if you desire.  Most people just bypass the volume pot and save space.  You also have directional lighting with the PS-1 boards.

Protosounds is still a good system and should not be overlooked as a control system for Williams or other locomotives.

Thanks everyone. I actually believe that some of the PS1 sounds are of better quality than the newer ps2/3 stuff. The PS1 loco I have in mind is a GP7/GP9. I have the same locos (GP7/GP9) in PS2 and the sounds are definitely better in the PS1 version.

I also like the fact that the PS1 e-unit starts out in neutral (duh) whereas the Williams want to take off as soon as power is applied.
