The ZWL’s front on/off switch has come in very handy!

With the uncertainty of the app crashing, I ordered one of these and keep it near or on me if walking around the layout. It kills track power only. Especially now that I can run multiple engines, you have to pay more attention or I’ll be posting on this thread.☹️

You guys either have a) too many trains b) too much track , c) too much stuff around the track or d) really bad luck!!  I have suffered from all those faults and had similar results to you but was not inclined to take pictures of it.  My family story in this regard goes like this...its 1947 just before Christmas and my Dad and Grandad are working on the "surprise" Lionel layout I am gettint (I am 3) for Christmas.  Grandad was determined that the train would go up a hill and come down, so he fashioned a sort of rise/fall piece of wood to go under the track.  However (this is before magnatraction remember) he didn't know how high to make the climb. So he would take the brand new Lionel PRR turbine and start it from one curve at full transformer velocity, it would make the climb but my Dad had to be stationed at the subsequent curve because he would always forget to reduce the voltage the engine would "shoot" down the straight and right off the end of the table (where my Dad would be stationed to catch it).  Thus determining that the slope was too great, he would take the wood down to the cellar and shave off some extra from the top...and then return to the same experiment.  Luckily nothing broke and I did get the set for Christmas.

When I built my current layout, I added remote control for the whole layout and for individual transformers.  I can reset the PH180's from anywhere, I don't have to access the physical bricks.  I can also hit the master and power the entire layout off.

As an afterthought, I also added this layout power pilot light.  Yes, I did get a nicer plate and fixture after I installed it and realized it was a good idea.   This reminds me that the layout is on so I won't leave it running when I leave the basement.

Thanks John, it was because of a previous post on a thread that you gave me the idea to buy a remote plug for my PH180.

LOL!

Some of you guys are the Master's of Mayhem!

I've had one truly spectacular derail on my Kansas City & Gulf "Ozark Sub" layout. It happened during a structured operating session. (I was operating solo at the time). It was indeed spectacular and looked way too realistic for comfort!

In the case of the derail I mention, I went ahead an went with it and treated it as a actual mishap and set about dispatching the needed movements in order to clean up the mess. As is the case on the prototype, getting the main line back in operation was a priority. Doing so actually turned out being a lot of fun!

Here's just a handful of many pics I shot and shared with some of my model RR friends at other forum venues.

Some of the carnage in Buck Holler (not all derailed cars are in this picture)...

And some of the cars went down the side of the embankment and fouled Possum Creek Lumber's spurs, effectively shutting them down until the mess was cleaned up. Here's a pic of the clean up of that area...

Getting the main line open again along with the ensuing clean up of all the cars made for a lot of additional fun in that operating session.
