Wiring for the MTH Z4000 transformer:

My control system consists of two MTH Z4000 transformers, 2 MTH TIUs and 2 MTH AIUs.

Each of the MTH Z4000 transformers are powered by separate 120 v power feeds from individual disconnects with built in 5 amp circuit breakers.  Note the maximum current required by the Z4000 is about 3.3 amperes at 400W total.

The 2 outputs from each Z4000 are protected by individual 10 ampere circuit breakers.

Note 1: At present I only need to place one Z4000 in service.  The second Z4000 is used as a backup.

Note 2: All my accessories including turnouts are powered by a separate Lionel KW transformer with separate circuit breaker and fuse protection. I also power the Lionel KW from a separate 120v power source.

Note 3: My TIUs are powered by separate "bricks" (not from the Z4000) using the "AUX POWER INPUT" on the TIU. This maintains the power to the TIUs in the event of an emergency shutdown.

Since the wiring to the MTH TIUs is short I use #18 gauge wire for hookup.

Another feature I have added is an E-Stop circuit which "breaks" power to both inputs to the TIU if any one of 4 different "STOP" pushbuttons are pressed.  These 4 pushbuttons are activated only in an "emergency" situation and are located around the layout in 4 places.
